Butt Scooting I know its not a good thing because normally its an indications of worms so I have to take tink to the vet because she started to do that the past week but it really funny to watch. It looks like tink is doing some kind of michael jackson moonwalk type dance moove :D . I am going to take her to the vet anyways but can butt scooting across the floor mean somethign other than worms? Can they just have a butt itch? |
have fun emptying those anal glands! :D It's not usually worms. |

I worded that badly. It is probably her anal glands that need expressed. It is very gross to do and I won't do it. I take them to the vet when they need it done. Most dogs can express them theirselves, that's what all the licking is about. When they start scooting, to me that means it is starting to bother them and probably time to go have it done. |
LOL on the michael jackson my husband said the same thing to me when he seen one of my little ones do that. I died laughing when I finally saw them do it. the go across the floor so fast when they do that it just cracks me up. reminds me of a wind up toy LOL .. took mine to the vet everything was okay. |
Another thing it could mean is that they might have some poopy stuck to them :D and they are just trying to clean themselves off  I had read about the butt scooting relating to the anal glands needing to be expressed. I took Annie to the vet and he was like no just wash her behind. So the next times she scooted I just paid attention and sure enough she had had a squishy poopy and was trying to clean herself off on my carpet  Poor little things like to have their behinds clean too! So just check and make sure that is not your case... Cause once you start getting their anal glands expressed it is something that you will always have to do.... |
I notice that TJ and Roxy do the 'moon walk' too. But it is usually b/c they need their butts washed. TJ only seems to do it once and awhile (usually when he had some soft poop followed by a little bit of mucus that doesn't go any further then just out his butt and stays there). Roxy always does it if she has soft poop, I have to quickly grab the poop (so no one trys to eat it) and then I have to quickly grab her before she moon walks. I just brought her to the groomers over the weekend for the first time. They completly shaved the hair around her butt hole (she never had that done before) and she was moon walking all weekend. I think it was itchy or she just felt uncomfortable, b/c she had no poop stuck! Anyway, good luck, I am sure it is not worms... |
Well good I am glad it might not be worms. Since tink is all white and I never see poop on her butt I dont think its thats. Its probobly the anal gland thing. I will let the vet express those because I am pretty sure that does not sound like anything I want to learn how to do. :D |

Sunshine has done that, too. I read about that anal gland thing. Gross! It says to carefully press on it to express fluid that is foul smelling. You might get squirted....Eeeew! I'll pay the vet to do that. I think I'd vomit. |
Olivia's groomer did the expressing when she went a few weekends ago. Did anyone see the Showdog Moms and Dads where the man was doing Pepe's (I think) and it squirted all over his arm? I nearly puked! Our cat had a problem with his anal sacks filling up when he was younger and there was a very (nasty) distinct smell to his booty when this happened. After having smelled this smell, I can't even imagine how bad the liquid form is. |
Omy gosh. My min pin squirted stuff out his butt when he got scared. It smelled like dead fish. Is that what you are talkign about? Is it the yucky analgland stuff? It was funny because he only did this 4 times. Twice at the vets when he was scared because he was gettign shots and then twice when my father in law picked him up!!!!lol!!!! My poor father in law smelled like crap it was soooo groosss and I never new what it was. |
Can be anal glands, worms, itch, or maybe she things she has something stuck on her. Sabrina does that sometimes if she has a "dingleberry". It is funny - poor babies. |
And if it isn't the anal glands or a dirty rear end, they can just be itchy. Sometimes the itch is from groomer's shaving them and sometimes it can be from grass allergies. An anti-itch cream or hydrocortisone cream will relieve the itch. |
Shana- yeah, rotten fish sounds pretty accurate now that I think of it. I've never heard of a dog squirting it before! Now that would be a great defense mechanism! |
