Yorkie pup loves to "paddle" in her water dish
 
My goofy little 14 week old yorkie has discovered how much fun it is to play in her water bowel. She literally "paddles" in the water, and then there is NO water left in her bowel .:aimeeyork
I am scared beacuse what if we are away and there is no water for a while? Does anybody have any suggestions as to how make sure she will have water at all times to drink?
Suzi is doing this more and more lately, and I am constanly filling her water dish again, and again. :aimeeyork

I think this is a puppy thing that she will outgrow. When my male Bichon, Cosmo, was a puppy, we couldn't keep water in his dish. He constantly paddled in it and tried to get into the bowl. He outgrew it. My female Bichon, Lacy, didn't paddle in her water bowl, but she loved to drop toys into it and then have a soaked toy to play with. Tennis balls were her favorite for this sport. I think you can get a water bowl that has a cover with an opening just big enough for the dog to get their nose into to drink and maybe she couldn't paddle in it. Maybe you could put her water bowl up on something a little higher than the floor so it wouldn't be so easy for her to get her feet into it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just tell her "no" gently and keep refilling her water bowl. When she outgrows it, you'll fondly remember this little bit of mischief.

I caught Brooklyn doing that the other day! I just told her "no" and pulled her paw out of the water. But for her it would be hard to empty the whole thing because we have the big refillable water bottle on top. So there is a lot of water to empty! :)

ooohhhh....Bella went through this stage too! Boy, were we ever cleaning up water on the kitchen floor & of course, she was drenched! I tried smaller bowls, etc. She did outgrow it!;)

Our 3 1/2 month old Daisy is just getting out of this stage. She still does it at my mom's house where there are several water bowls out for all the animals. It makes such a mess and has water all over the floor. But she looks so funny doing it.

I am going to look for one that has a cover on top. Like you all said, she will outgrow this. I just did not like to think that she was not going to have any water when we are gone for a while, and it is triple digets outside:(

We had the same issue with Luna, so we switched from bowls to water bottles, in a stand. Someone here pointed me to this link, but we ended up making our own because they were expensive:eek:

Not all outgrow it. I have one puppy who does it, and one thats 3 1/2 yrs that loves water.

Bella is almost 2 and still plays in her water....i think hers is out of boredum tho....she only does it when she is mad or is just playing around....she doesnt do it all the time luckily, but she never grew out of it
