help plz my yorkie gets hypoglycemic....i try to feed her well throughout the day but in 2 weeks shes had 3 attacks.....im not sure if im giving her the right food either..i give her puppy canned pedigree...and i mix in some nutrical....any suggestions on a good quality food for her???? and help with the hypoglycemia? |
Welcome to YT You should feed her a pea size amount of nutrical by letting her lick it off your finger. And if she is getting frequent hypo attacks, you should be giving her the nutrical every couple of hours. Next, you should add a little of Karo Syrup to her water bowl, this will also aide in keeping up her blood sugars during the day. Now food. Pedigree is not a great food, sorry to say :( Most food that you can buy at a supermarket, walmart etc...are poor quality If you can find a 'mom n pop' type of pet store that would be great, they have better selections. I would recommend any of the following: Canidae Wellness Solid Gold Merrick Natural Balance Nature's Variety I hope that helps you :D |

This is a very common condition in tiny dogs. Mine aren't hypoglycemic, but they get a tiny bit of NutriCal twice a day. I feed mine Evo for their regular food, but I also cook some food for them. One of the other posts recommended Karo syrup in the water, and I'd highly recommend either that or honey. Just remember not to overdo it. You're not trying to flavor the water. You're just trying to add sugar without adding refined sugar. I'd get her off Pedigree ASAP. As the other poster also said, this is a very low-quality food. The higher quality foods are more expensive, but you're not going to go broke feeding one Yorkie. They don't eat that much. Canned food, even high-quality foods, should never be given as a routine diet. Eating small kibble helps to keep their teeth clean and healthy, and Yorkies are very prone to dental problems, which can affect their general health. If you decide to change the food (which I hope you will), remember to start gradually mixing it with the current food, increasing the quantity of the new food in the mix every two-three days. You should have her off the Pedigree in two weeks or less that way, depending how it's agreeing with her system. Some dogs can switch between foods with no problems, but if yours isn't one of them, you could end up with a sickly puppy and a very big mess in your house. |

Since she is only 8 weeks old - she is a tiny baby and needs different nutrition than she is getting. She should have proper , quality food and water available to her 24/7 - she is too young to be put on a feeding schedule as she can't hold enough food for energy to keep her through the night or even for several hours - She needs a quality food and watching - this hypoglycemia can turn very ugly very quickly - if you need more help with her - pm me or one of the other breeders on here and let us try to help her. She needs help and quickly |
