I'm Confused About Ralphies BAT Results Okay, I will try and keep this short. A few weeks ago Ralphie had a Bile Acid test done. They said his post meal results were a little too high at 24.3. The vet wanted to bring him in to do another BAT just in case the test was off. So for his next one the post meal was 20.6. They said this was just a little high but not enough to be a shunt. They had never heard of a Protein C test or a scintigraphy. They basically had nothing else to tell me. Ralphie acts perfectly fine but he really is just the absolute love of my life and I can't imagine something happening to him because I knew something was slightly wrong with his liver but let it go untreated. If anyone has some advice on this it will be greatly appreciated. My family thinks I am being overly paranoid but I keep telling them "When you love something this much you can't help but be paranoid". I really hope I am overreacting but I am not familiar with what the normal levels are for this test and my vet is basically not helping at all. Any advice is soooo appreciated. |
IMO that's not high enough to worry about I think normal is under 20, so those numbers are nothing to worry about seeing he has no symptoms whatsoever. Have it rechecked periodically and if it keeps going up you may want to modify his diet. I'm not medically trained, just a breeder who tries to be aware of this particular condition as it pertains to Yorkies. Good luck. |

Cali's first results were in the 90's and second in the 40's she was diagnosed with very mild MVD that needed no treatment. So I would think that Ralphie's numbers are good. |
Those numbers are so close to normal..If your baby had any meds or flea/heartworm meds around the time that they did the blood draws, then that could be what made the numbers go every so slightly up. Maybe do another one in 6 months if you want and avoid high protein foods just in case. I'm sure your baby will be okay :) |
