need help! hey! so this is my first thread on here... i'm a new mommy to a 3 month old yorkie named Splinter. I have a situation and I need some support. I have a family member that believes a dog is a dog and it doesn't matter what you feed it. As a result this person had been feeding my dog table scraps, more specifically ham & eggs. My puppy has been so sick this week because of it. The poor guy has it coming out both ends :( I am completely beside myself... I have spoken to two vets that informed me a yorkie cannot have anything but dog food, but for some reason that is not enough evidence for this person....the physical signs are not even enough... if i could get some feedback from some people maybe my argument would be more convincing. Thanks so much! |
Welcome to YT:) First, that sounds like pancreatitis. Your pup needs to go to the vet right away and possible get an IV. Food is pulled for pancreatitis but that wouldn't work with a pup, so did the vet say anything about an IV? Yorkies can have 100% human food (several on Yorkie get this), however, there are certain foods they can't have and the meals have to be balanced. Ham is way to fatty and salty for dogs and pancreatitis is very dangerous. You can google it and print that out for your family. Bites of egg (especially boiled with no butter or anything) is okay along with a balanced diet. |
I feel so bad for your poor puppy... Can you keep your dog away from this person when they are eating? Some people are really thick headed and insensitive:shocked7q! It makes me made that he won't listen to your request:mad: If you search this board and the internet for the effects of fatty foods on the yorkie digestive system you will find lots of info and maybe something he will listen to. I on the other hand a very vengeful person and when it comes to my baby I am very protective...If I was in your shoes and all else failed then I would have to teach the table scrap feeder a lesson by sending him to his porcelain throne for the night so he can see how he likes pooping his guts out...:sickie: So who wants to come to my house for some special chocolate pudding;)...j/k LOL! I'm not in any way suggesting that you do this...cause its not the answer either...I just thought I would share my twisted view on addressing the situation if the bonehead won't listen to reason! Good luck...:) |
Oh yeah...forgot to say Welcome to YT...:wavey: |
I forgot to say if this is pancreatitis (maybe it's not), it can become chronic.:( |
Sorry your poor baby is sick. I would tell this person that the puppy being sick is a direct result of their feeding it table food and they will be responsible for the vet bills. If it is someone who you have no control over I would lock my dog up when this person was around with a lock and key. A yorkie can die a painful death from this. |
Hello and welcome to YT. I'm sorry your arrival brings with it this bad news, but everyone here is always very helpful. I have to say that I've been home cooking for my dogs for 48 years without any problelms, but Yorkies do have very sensitive digestive tracks and cannot eat a lot of things. Mine can't eat raw beef or salmon without getting really bad diarrhea. Ham is not a meat dogs should have anyway. Nothing wrong with eggs providing they are either boiled or scrambled in just a drop of olive oil. Your baby needs to see a Vet. like the others have mentioned. Good luck and keep us posted. |
My Yorkie, Twinkle absolutely loves raw red and yellow peppers. I am a little bit nervous to give her to much, but she keeps on coming back for more. Is there any danger in giving her that? |
