Coat is very thin I'm purchasing a new baby this afternoon, if his exam goes well. I've posted a few threads about him already, so I'll be brief. He's 4 1/2 mo weighs 4.6 lbs, and very long legs. I've had him 2 days. What concerns me right this minute...is his coat. It's very, very thin. It was really matted, but I've corrected that, and he was really patient with me. I've started him on NV raw, and I'm sure that will help his coat. But, can anyone recommend any supplements to help thicken up his coat? He looks kind of scruffy it's so thin. I'm getting him because he needs me. Thanks |
At 4 1/2 months some of the silky puppies do have thin hair. I have one that it looks like is going to be a great silk and her coat is pretty thin too. Does his hair appear to be changing color? Does it look sort of whitish near the skin? Quote:

hi, When I purchased Simba around 4 months old, he also seemed like he had very thin hair on top. The color on his head was changing into silver. I thought he was balding on top! :D Simba is now 7 mos, and the silver is more like a tan color now. Don't worry, your baby is not going bald! :) |
Hi there! I am also a raw feeder. It takes 3-4 months for the raw to really make a difference in the coat, in my experience. It is the best way for optimum health, all around, I feel. I would also recommend a daily cod liver oil supplement, which promotes a healthy skin and coat. I like Nordic Naturals brand. They use top quality fish oil. If the fish oil is mediocre, there won't much benefit. Good luck! |
