So frustrated I am so frustrated and don't know what to do to get this puppy to eat more than a few bites of anything. I have tried everything including the beef rolls, cooked chicken, all kinds of kibble and canned food. Tried scrambled egg and cottage cheese also. I am a wreck here thinking this puppy is going to go into hypoglycemic shock or something. Yesterday she ate a couple of chicken sticks and today won't touch them. I am about in tears here wondering what to do. Do I keep trying different things or do I put food down and force myself to wait till she is hungry enough? I hate this, really I do. |

Nutracal I have Nutracal but how do I get her to take it? Do I force her mouth open and just put it on her tongue. She will not lick it off my finger. I DO NOT want to be a food slave to this dog! But I also do not want to have to deal with sugar issues either. The vet freaked me out about that! |

Try Natural Balance rolls. That is the only thing in 10 years I have had luck with. It's something about the taste and the mouth feel with these little critters. Also - you may try, depending on age etc. Gerber baby food - I have used the turkey and gravy when Sabrina was ill and it settles her stomach etc. Good luck. |
eating Thanks Maggie for that suggestion. I will do that. I have the Natural Balance rolls but they sparked no interest either. Guess I have to put some food down, close her in a room and forget she's in there for several hours. This is worse than raising kids!! LOL |
Jenni - I agree with what Maggie has said. Your pup will eat WHATEVER YOU PUT DOWN FOR HER when she's hungry. Just check often to make sure her gums are pink and not white. |
Try warming it Take the natural balance roll, chop up very well depending on the size of your baby, then mix with her kibble and warm in the microwave. Not too long, just to warm it. This is the only way my boys will eat their NB. Try it. |
Just a suggestion but when I first started using the nutrical Roxy wouldnt take it off my finger so I got a small syringe from the vet (without needle of course) and filled a little in there and stuck it through trough the side of her mouth. I only had to do that 3x and now shell lick it off my finger like its candy. Maybe that will help you also.....hopefully. Good Luck!! |
Thanks Just want you all to know how much I thank you for your suggestions!! I am so glad I found this forum. |
sami has been the same way, he isnt to happy with nutracal, but I put a dab on top of his nose  |
Sometimes , puppies don't eat as we wish they do . I was worrying about Jade and Choulita eating very small amount . They were due for their shots and I asked the vet about this situation . She answered me that if I change the food , they will take the habit of playing finicky eater . A pup or an adult dog will never starve himself to death . |
You can open its mouth and put the nutrical on the roof of its mouth. I am different than everyone else in that I would not just put food out and hope a little yorkie eats it. I would continue trying to put moist mixed with the hard untill it ate. They can be finciky at first but they come around. My dogs go crazy over Lil ceasers food. Of its not eating just make sure its getting nutrical and you'll be okay as far as hypoglycemia. |

I agree- your dog will definitely lick it off his/her nose.Olivia loved Nutristat, though. She (and the cat) probably would have eaten the entire tube if I let her! I used to give Olivia wet food at every meal and she would suck all the wet food off the dry food and spit the dry food on the floor. One day I just stopped giving her wet food. She turned her nose up the dry food at first, but when she was hungry she ate. Now, she gets wet food as a treat once a week or so (mainly just because I have 3 cans to use up) and eats up her dry food like it's the best thing ever. |
