Should I supplement ?? My 2 babies eat natures best , in fact it is available to them all day. They dont eat a lot of it though, maybe 1/4 cup per day for both.. At night I give them home cooked. I tried using ground turkey and brown rice cooked in Low sodium chicken broth this week . I sometimes add diced carrots, or brocholli . They love it, they just can't eat it fast enough. I am concerned that they are not getting enough nutrients in there diet.. Does anyone have an opinion about this? |
If they are eating more than about 15-20% homecooked, they will need to be supplemented. I would talk to a nutritionist about balancing their diet. Have you thought about going entirely to homecooked? |
I dont mind that idea at all ! I am just not sure what to add to meet there nutrition needs. Thats why I leave a good quality dry food for them to munch on. But they dont eat much of it.. |
Do you mean each dog is eating a 1/4 c. of kibble per day or 1/4 c. between them? What are their weights? |
They eat about 1/4 cup between them per day, They dont really like to eat dry I dont think. but when I feed them at night and its rice and turkey or chicken they will each eat about 1/2 cup. Of course im not counting snacks like bits of cheese or fruits and biscuits. My yorkie weighs 9 lbs and my Maltese weighe 9 lbs 4 oz. |
1/4 cup between the both? i dont think thats enough for them? |
Well I leave them a full dish everyday, and without measuring im estimating maybe 1/4 cup ia missing when I get home at night. But thats why I started cooking chicken and rice for them,I was concerned that they wern't eating enough. There weights are certainly ok. IN fact I got Cooper Dec. 2 2007 weighing 7.2 lbs. He was 18 months old then and he now weighs 9 lbs. There vet says there both healthy and what I am cooking for them is good, but where they eat more of the home cooking then anything else I wonder if its healthy enough.. |
my baby is the same way.. I leave canidae dry food out all day and she will eat a little throughout the day and then I make her chicken and veggies for dinner.. she really isnt eating enough of the dry food.. her vet gave me a vitamin but I dont know if that has everything she needs or if she needs something else or if its enough to just homecook for her.. I'm VERY confused lol... help anyone?? |
Glad to see someone else with my question .. My vet says home cooking is best for them, but it seems like its always the same foods.. Last night brown rice ground turkey, carrots and peas.. They gobbled it up . I make enough that I can give it to them several nights, then make a new batch maybe using sweet potato and brocolli.. BUT I am not sure IM doing the right things.. |
with the home cooking i add missing link and calcuim to her food |
I was under the impression that home cooked meals were bad for the furbabies' teeth, buy now I don't know if I'm doing the right thing only feeding dry.Any advise? |
i do both,, in the morning i mix dry with home food, in the evening she get only home cooking cause she wont eat dry food at that time.. shes nuts |
