Brushing Teeth Hi Everyone Just wondering how you are able to brush your Yorkies Teeth. I have two 4 month old yorkie boys who wont let me near them to clean their teeth. I have tried with a doggy tooth brush and also with the finger brush. Neither have been succesful. Dont know what to do and I am getting frustrated. i want to look after them so they dont have any issues down the road. I was also able to groom them until 2 weeks ago when they decided that they werent going to have it anymore. Mino actually bit me when i got close to his face. What can I do ? Seems as though they dont respect me and everyone just laughs at me because I cant control my dogs. Please help. |
yep, brushing teeth is the worst! I use a small toddlers toothbrush and I have the chicken flavored tooth paste from an organic petstore. The toothpaste smells weird since we're used to stuff for people, but they like it okay. THey still don't like getting their teeth brushed, but as they're licking the toothpaste just brush quickly! |
when i took puppy classes at Petsmart the trainer told me about a toothpaste they sold where you dont have to actually "brush" their teeth. you just have to put it on their teeth. im not sure what brand. you can check it out, if youre baby's being a brat. lol |
My pup hates the fingerbrush too. He doesn't let me get near his teeth with anything. Here is what finally worked for me: I took a regular toothbrush and allowed him only to have it right before bedtime while I could watch him and I gave it to him like a toy. He LOVED it!!! He went "to town" just chewing away on the toothbrush like crazy. So for about 3 nights in a row, I just let him chew on the toothbrush while I supervised right before bedtime. Then I began putting a tiny bit of PETZLIFE or toothpaste on the bristles before I gave it to him. He just licked it cautiously at first and then started chewing away like crazy on it again. It's worked like a charm...he literally brushes his own teeth and has no idea. Believe me, he may not get every single tooth but he moves it from side to side and holds it with his paws....he gets those darn teeth better then I ever could. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you!:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Thank you for your ideas. Sloan that sounds like a good one. My little guys try to put whatever they can in their mouths. Except of course when im trying :) I'll give it a shot tonight |
