Is it bad to go to the beach?? My mom was taking Stanley to the beach 3 times a week but heard from someone that it was bad for the dog's health to go so much...so now she only takes him once a week. Is there any truth in this?? Also...my aunt has a 12 year old maltese that she thinks is too old to go to the beach...how old is too old? |
the only thing i can think of being bad at the beach is if the water is overly polluted. If i coudl take Layla to the beach daily i would. Just watch for overheating. It might be bad because they need to be bathed more often which is hard on their skin, but i'd still take her if i could! those are very lucky dogs. As for the older dog... again.. if she is happy there... doesn't seem to be under any heat distress... i say it is WONDERFUL exercise and they are just so lucky to be able to go! |
What is supposedly wrong with it? We take ours to the ocean. If it's mid day...I'd suggest a canopy for the shade and plenty of fresh water. Mine aren't interested in going in the ocean...but those birds are fun and digging a nice hole in the sand is too. PS Sand is brutal to get out of yorkie hair... |
My dogs love running on the beach. Helps keep their claws nice & short & smooth too :) Can't see what could be wrong with it, did they say? I suppose if it's hot where you live you'd need to watch that, not a problem we have much here in the north of England as it's usually cold & howling a gale! That's on the few days it isn't raining :D |
hmm im wondering what could be so wrong as i live a short block away from the beach and lexi loves to run on the sand. |
I dont think there is anything wrong with it. We take bella to the beach and she goes crazy running in the sand! She has soooo much fun! like everyone else said just make sure they dont get too hot and have enough to drink. |
Alfie and Lottie go to the beach nearly every day, depending on the weather!! They love it and we have never had any problems.....My mums yorkie Pebbles who has now sadly passed, she often went into the water for a little paddle and she lived until she was 15 and loved the beach.:) |
thanks for everyone's replies! My aunt just heard somewhere that going to the beach a lot gives the dog cancer...They don't go in the water and don't run around in the sand either because my mom and my aunt bike and/or walk to the beach from my aunt's house and the area that allows dogs on the sand is too far so they walk along the road and get to sit in the bike baskets. |
