Adult yorkie eating the puppy's food Some help would be very much appreciated guys. Willis who will be 6 next week, is a very fussy eater, since we had Darcy, ( 4 weeks now), I have found it really difficult at feeding times, Willis prefers to pick at his food throughout the day,and never eats at regular times, I can't leave his food down now as Darcy my 12 weeks old pup will eat it all.(he's also used to eating a variety of foods because he is sooo fussy) So making life easier, or so I thought, I have made the mistake of feeding Willis the same food as her, so I can leave it down longer. He seems to of put on some weight, and is looking very rounded. Aghhhh, BIG MISTAKE. I have over the last few days been changing Darcy, the pups food over from Pedigree to James wellbeloved, which is a really good brand here in the UK, They state that their puppy food is also ideal for small dogs who are fussy eaters (small sized kibble). I am unsure what to do, I don't know if the new food will be ok for him as the protein is still higher? (The food that he has put on weight with will be the pedigree) What is the best thing to do to help him lose a few pounds? He weighs 7lb, but is a small yorkie, and has never been this heavy, usually around 5lbs I think. Any help would be great. Thanks x |
Maybe you could try mixing the food til you gradually eliminate the more fattening food. I wish you good luck! |

lottie weighs 7lbs but shes not a tiny wee yorkie, shes about the size of a cat, she sometimes goes a day with out eating and then eats two lots the next day! Also if you give your dog treats maybe stop them while hes eating the puppy food. But cutting down on the portion size is prob the best bet. I feed lottie Bakers puppy food, i tried her on the james wellbeloved and she didnt like it at all, and shes doesnt like the chicken flavours so its the beefy one i give her. But shes not a big eater anyway hope this helps :) |
I had the same problem with Abby and Daisy. Abby was eating Daisy's adult formula food and vice versa. So I switched them both to an all life stages food. They now eat NV raw in the morning and Canidae the rest of the day. |
i dont think we can get canidae in the uk, or any all life stages foods that I know of x |
