Puppy vs Adult Dog Food My vet recommended that I take my pup off of puppy food at 4 months and all of the other information on the internet and on the bags of food say to keep them on puppy food for up to a year. My pup is 7 months old now and I still have him on puppy Innova. When shoud I begin switching to adult kibble? And do you suggest sticking with Innova or trying the Evo (which I have heard may be too rich & high in protein).....I notice that many YTers have their dogs on a couple of different foods....should I do both Evo & Innova or something else. I appreciate your thoughts, thank you!:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Hi Paulette and Derby.....our Vet said to keep Moose on puppy until he is 1 year. Then slowing swtich over to adult. We used Innova puppy then switched to adult Innova. :animal-pa |
Thanks Linda! It amazes me how vets can have such differing opinions.....it just seems like since puppies are still growing for up to a year or so they need the puppy food longer than 4 months. I feel much better for keeping him on the puppy Innova longer than my vet recommended after reading your response. I appreciate your help! Hugs to you and Moosie! :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Garlic in Innova Hi Everyone i read that garlic is not good for dogs, but i noticed in the innova ingrediants it lists garlic. Is it ok or could this hurt them? Please let me know Thanks |
i would stay on a puppy food. it's puppy food for a reason.. they have different nutrional needs about the garlic- it is in such small amounts that it's fine. |

I'd wait til at least 8-10 months to switch. If you want to feed grain free I would not use Evo. It is too high in fat and can cause problems. As for the garlic, no amount is good for them and I will not feed it. Will it cause a problem? Probably not but it could long-term. There is a lot of controversy over this subject but there is no reason for it to be in dog food and it isn't worth the small risk. Anemia isn't something to take lightly... |
Innova EVO is for adult and puppy (my vet said I could feed it to my puppy). I mix a 50/50 combo of Adult Innova Mini Bites and Innova EVO Mini Bites. I guess evey vet is different. |

....that seems like you get the best of both that way. Great idea! Thank you! I use the sample of EVO adult dog food that I have as treats for my lil guy and he really likes it.:thumbup::thumbup: |
