Time to "fix"? When is the right time to get a yorkie "fixed"? Do they need to be a certain weight or age? When will they go into heat? Thanks.......I really don't know anything about this. Lori |
It has been my experience that the norm is about 6 months. My vet wanted to wait a bit longer when I needed to have Zoey spayed because he wanted her teeth to start their change over so he could pull what needed to be pull. Due to some unforseen financial issues I just had her spayed at 8 1/2 months and she was 2 lbs and 13 ozs. It's usually best to do it before the first heat and before the boys tend to become sexually mature so as to not have him marking and also for her to not run into issues. |
Like Beth said around 6 months or so. Roxie is 8 months old and scheduled to go in next Tuesday but I think she is coming into heat so I may have to cancel it. That's the problem with waiting. |
Walker was 6 months on Memorial Day and got fixed yesterday. I kinda wish I would have done it a little sooner, since he actively started humping. Not just for dominance, either. No, he meant business! Also, all of his baby canines had to come out. By that age they should have fallen out, but they didn't and the permanent once were coming in behind them. At my first puppy check up my vet recommended to have him fixed between 4 and 6 months. Hope, that helps. |
Well, I think she is in heat. But, exactly what happens during "heat"? I think she is bleeding a little. See, that to me would mean she isn't in heat, but what do I know. The vet said that "heat" can last 21 days, and then you have to wait 2 months after that to fix them. So, I guess we have to wait until August. Why can't you fix them while they are in heat? Oh my, so much to learn! Lori |
There's a thread in the breeders' forum titled 'please read before neutering your puppy'. It has a link to some great info about the risks and benefits of spay/neuter. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
