Feeding raw and traveling...
 
Well, I took Lucy out of town for the first time since I started feeding her raw. I got the dehydrated version of her raw diet and she would not touch it! I ended up having to make chicken for her during our trip so...any suggestions/advice on what I should do? She doesn't like any regular dog food I've tried and get this - I was desperate to get her to eat during our vacation so I picked up some Caesars just to get something in her stomach and she wanted nothing to do with it...I'm at a loss :(

can't you pack it in ice in a cooler?

Surprising, bc my guys LOVE that freeze dried straight up - no water added! So, you tried it dry and tried adding water right?

Otherwise, let's see - did you travel by car? If yes, you coud bring the raw frozen by cooler. If flying - you could check a cooler w/ ice packs and bring it that way. Otherwise, I wonder if she'd eat NV's canned Instinct line. But, then you'd hate it if she didn't want to go back to raw....

She certainly does! this would be for flying. You know, it didn't occur to me to try to give it to her dry...I'm going to try that this evening. I did test her on it before we went away and she ate it fine. She just isn't much of an eater to begin with when traveling so...

I had come across the same dilemma - and he loved it dried. I use it for treats too and he loves it.

Also, you may want to look into getting dry ice. I can get it at my local dairy store or at Meijer. Not sure if they will let this stuff on the plane, but I filled up a small lunch box with two meals and the dry ice lasted for 24 hours!

That's what we (Michele, Gayla) and I are going to have to do when we go to the KC Meet-Up. We are thinking that we will pack the raw in a cooler, but we will be gone for 4 days so we might end up taking the dehydrated, which my babies will eat also.

You are right about the Instinct can, when Prissie was pregnant last October, she started to turn her nose up to the raw, so I started feeding her the can, she loved it. After her miscarriage, it took her a few months to go back to the raw.

A lot of companies have a retailer locaters online. Maybe try to find a retailer near where you're going and just pick up a small bag once you're out there.

A high quality canned food would be a good short term substitute (providing he
can handle it)

There's quite a few dehydrated products out there.... Nature's Variety, Stella & Chewy's, Steve's Real Food, Honest Kitchen, Wysong all make a dehydrated "raw" food.... You might just have to try a couple of them before finding one she likes.

She's eating NV raw. Thanks for all the suggestions :)
