Fleas/recommendation I live in FL, THE FLEA CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, tried the Dawn original, Frontline, Advantage, none worked. Tricksie does not run around in the grass or dirt, she is in the house or on concrete around the pool and courtyard, but she still had fleas, the Vet put her on Comfortis that is made by Lilly. She has never had a flea since starting this. You are suppose to give it every month but I check her over and will not give it to her unless I see a flea, that has only happened once. :) |
Hi! You can also use the ivory soap (bar not liquid) to get rid of fleas. it is cheap and easy to use. It floats! LOL!! We use the revolution which is the topical and contains the heartworm and the flea in one dosage and it is based on their weight much closer than the other brands. Mine have never had a problem with it. Prevention is usually better than treatment since the fleas can lay eggs in your carpet/rugs/beds. They are nasty little citters and can be very difficult to exterminate. Good luck! Houston is similar to Florida and the fleas can really get out of hand in our hot humid weather. Fleas also carry the tapeworm larvae which she can get if one happens to get swallowed. |
If you are using Frontline, Advantage, or any of the topspots and also bathing in Dawn, Ivory, flea shampoo, etc,; you are washing off the flea products and that may be why they are not working. Your vet's office should explain that to you and suggest a mild pet shampoo. Something with aloe or oatmeal - Vet Solutions Shampoo, Hylyte, etc. I have used Frontline since its inception on my older yorkie and have NEVER seen a flea or tick on him. We live in Tennessee and the fleas and ticks are really bad her also.:) |

I have been researching using Borax - both in the house and in the yard. Google Borax fleas - you will find lots of testimonials. We don't have them, but I'm going to treat the yard tomorrow to make sure we don't get them and I may mention it to the neighbors on either side of me as they both have dogs, and hoping we can just keep them out of here. I also have several plug in units that are suppose to deter bugs, rodents, etc |

another idea I read about out online is using Eucalyptus - they suggested planting it along the edges of your yard to keep fleas away. I happen to be using a shampoo on the dogs right with Eucalyptus oil in it - I was using it for a different reason - but hopefully it is making a difference for fleas. It's still early here - as we have had way too much cool weather this spring, it is just starting to get warm here on a regular basis |
