Bella and Diggy need a new food Okay so after MUCH researching and many vet visits....we need a new food. Okay it started with a bout of Clostridium in March. SO we recover from that and the last week they reacted to something treated with steroids which I just found out restrict immune system therefore allowing the bad bacteria (clostridium) to overgrow and make them sick again. :( So with much advice on here and reinforcement from the vet we think a probiotic Daily will be beneficial to them being they tend to have sensitive digestive tract and bellies. Anyone have any ideas on a bland/sensitive belly kibble i can use? Vet recommends Science diet for sensitive stomachs but I have heard thats not that quality of a food. Any ideas???? also those that use probiotics...would you recommend benebac, activia yogurt, or florastor? I have been told all 3 they will eat plain activia without a problem. |
We've had good luck with Canidae for Loki's sensitive tummy. Every once in a while I try the "ultra premium" foods like Evo, Orijen, etc. and we always go back. I give them kibble in the morning and try to give them super high quality canned (or chicken/rice/etc.) for dinner. I find if they don't have the Canidae at least once a day they are gassy and their tummies gurgle. |

My vet prescribes Forta Flora when my girls have diarrhea/upset tummies. |

yes mine said they can prescribe stuff once they have issues Im looking for more preventative to keep this from happening...like a supplement daily. This is the second time in 3 months so I really think they need something daily to help maintain. Also seems this happens on weekends (just my luck) so I am trying to not have to run to the emergency vet on saturdays anymore lol this is my third trip in 3 months and just sundays bill for diggy was 498 bucks:eek::eek: I mean id pay a million to fix him just seems this can so easily be avoided! Natural Balance allergy formulas have very few ingredients are good foods. I believe for an upset stomach the less ingredients, the less upset. Their fish formula contains salmon and sweet potatoes. You may want to check them out. I would also recommend California Natural (some are allergic to the sunflower oil), Pinnacle, and Wellness Simple Solutions foods. These all have few ingredients so less to upset the tummy. Good Luck finding your new food. |
Yes, daily probiotics will help their gas and tummy issues immensely. Miko gets probiotics everyday as well. He takes Azodyl which is typically given to dogs with kidney issues, but it's essentially just a combo of probiotics along with psyllium husk for fiber. There are many great products out there as far as probiotics go. I will try to get you the names of a few. Plain yogurt is okay, but I don't think giving a tsp or so is going to be enough probiotics. A probiotic product will be better suited for them. |
