Pet Insurance? For those who insure their yorkies is it worth it? if so, is banfield a good company to use? (they are with petsmart i think) I have never insured any of my dogs before and now that im getting a yorkie, i am not sure how "durable" these tiny guys are :animal36 |
OMG please insure your puppy!!! I did not know much about yorkies when i got Bailey and i wish i had insured him the moment i got him, i had no proplems with him untill he was 5 nearly 6 months old and he had 2 fits he was not insured and the money i had to pay out to get his blood checked and vet visits was just amazing!! Yorkies are prone to have fits other health promblems. If i was you for the sake of £10 a month i would say it is well worth it. I now have Bailey insured and my mind is now at ease knowin that if anything else does happen to my little furbaby that he is covered for what ever treatment he might need. I would defo say better to be safe than sorry and up paying out money when u didnt need to if u only had him insured. hope this helps :D |
I did the math and it wasn't worth it for me. I could save the money that I would be paying monthly for the insurance and put it towards an emergency- if one were to ever come up. I also found that they don't cover a lot of things. |
I have insurance & am sooo glad that we did so. Our breeder had her enrolled with Petplan when she came to us & we just continued it. Petplan seems to be really great & easy to work with - we just send in the forms & the check is in the mail within a few days. It's great to get them insured as a puppy so you can see if any issues come up in their puppy years, if in the future you decide it's not worth it, you can cancel. Good Luck! |
I have all three of my dogs insured, it costs me £40.00 a month! Which is approx $80.00! I know that I am no good at saving so its pointless saying I could just put the money away! I recently claimed for my 5 yr old Staff, the total bill was £400.00/$800.00. I couldn't have afforded to pay this out myself, my excess was £70/$140, thats all it cost me. This was just for a small harmless lump to be removed (we didn't know it was harmless til afterwards, best to be safe than sorry!). As my dogs get older they're likely to need more treatment at least I know we've got it covered!!! |
I pay about £40 pounds a month for my 2 with petplan. Better safe than sorry. |
I searched (ok admittedly half searched), but is there a thread out there somewhere where people can rate their experience with their insurance company ie value for coverage, ease of customer service, etc? |
You know ... I asked the same Question a few weeks ago and did not really get any answers cause most on them on here don't use it ... I found one and it seems to me ... that there ok .... and I will sign up Maya once we moved ...... I think better safe then sorry .... and it is not that expensive ... I will use Petplan for her and it is under 20 $ a month with a 200 $ Deductible and under 30 $ a month with a 50 $ Deductible .... |

I was wondering the same thing and I'm still thinking about purchasing it. I guess it could be good because you never know what might happen. |
I was looking for comparisons online today, too, and couldn't find any. However, Petplan has a relationship with the Humane Society, so I thought that was a good sign. Check out Petplan Pet Health Insurance | The Humane Society of the United States. |
I use VPI and am very happy with it. I chose the superior plan that covers things way beyond emergencies - including prescriptions, vaccinations, boosters, neutering, flea and heartworm medication etc. My baby already had an emergency this year, and I am so glad I had the insurance! I pay $50 a month but have already saved money (compared to if I did not have the insurance). Getting reimbursed is very easy - just have to fax a form and the receipt over and the check comes in the mail. Well, they don't have Petplan in NYC (no idea why), so I wound up with ASPCA insurance from aspcapetinsurance.com. Has anyone ever used them? If so, do you have any feedback? |
Jambo is insured through Pet Plan as well and boy was I glad I had it when he got mysteriously ill last month. |
