Oh no, not an underbite~ Yep, discovered that Pookie has an underbite. All I know about an underbite is that he would be disqualified from being shown. That's no big deal, I didn't buy him to show. I bought him because I fell in love with him. What I need to know is..what problems, if any, could we encounter due to the underbite. If you are out there and your baby has an underbite, I would like to hear from you...or if you are knowledgeable of underbites..please post any info you can. Thanks |
One of my kids also has an under bite and from what I understand unless it's severe you should encounter no problems really. As you already know it is a fault where showing is concerned but it makes them no less loveable if you just bought yours for companionship. |
I've not heard of any health problems associated with an underbite. |
Jamie has an underbite and he's doing fine. |
Xena has an underbite and she sometimes it looks like she's smiling :D |

1 Attachment(s) My Kissy has the underbite and she has a bigger lower lip which makes it really cute, IMO! I had to have several of her permanent teeth removed on top to allow her bottom canines to come in straight. She has perfectly straight teeth now and there is a little gap on top on both sides that allow her bottom canines to go up. If we hadn't had this done, her teeth would have collided and she may have ended up with the bulldog look where their teeth bow out on the sides. Attachment 218314 |
1 Attachment(s) Sophie has an under bite and she has had no problems. She always looks like she is smiling. |
My Shih Tzu Maggie has an under bite and honestly, I think it makes her look so cute! As far as health issues.....none that I am aware of or ever heard of. |
my baby has an underbite!!! and i used to be bothered by it.. but now i think it's the cutest thing ever! it makes him look different from other yorkies.. but honestly i'm kinda glad to hear about other yorkies that have underbites.. i thought it was a really strange thing for by Chippy to have.. anyway.. people think it's adorable.. and it looks like he's always smiling.. as for health issues.. there are none... i even asked my vet about it when i first got him because i was concerned it would be an issue and cause problems later.. but nope.. he said it's not going to.. so i was happy about that. |
Mine too !!! 4 Attachment(s) My 5 months old pup Corky has been losing his front baby teeth for about 3 weeks now...the big ones came straight in...but I only noticed today that he has an underbite boohoo...it was seeing his bottom teeth smiling at me that made me check more carefully - the bottom tiny ones close just in front of the top ones...he hates me looking...too hyper lol...but I was pleased when I got him as I couldn't find any faults on him....but I spoke to the people who bought his sister and she had a panting problem which the vet said was due to the jaw..can't remember if it was under or overbite tho'. Corky was fine at that stage...and I don't know if this will get better or worse once he loses more teeth. He hasn't lost his K9s or any from there back. Now I am wondering if I caused this as he loves pully games with toys. I am disappointed...my hubby says he looks like MUTTLEY on DASTARDLY and MUTTLEY cartoon from the 70's ! I wasn't going to show him....but I might have used him for stud later...so would probably not now depending on what happens when he loses more teeth....I was also quite keen to neuter him as I have Casper "whole". I might ask my Vet should I be doing anything...the taking out of teeth in above post is interesting ! I love him anyway....but I do feel sad. :( Yorkies seem to come with a fault or a health problem, don't they ! My four are below.....Luv Debra x x x x |
