The Honest Kitchen Dog Food
 
Has anyone used this dog food? It is dehydrated raw food.

Mine wouldn't touch it!! Even my porkie yorkies wouldn't eat it! I had to give it to a friend who uses it!

We've been using this for almost a year now and absolutely love it!!!!!! It is very well-balanced, but you can also add additional meat and/or fruit and vegetables to it.

It is made in an FDA regulated plant with all human grade products. I love the convenience of it as well as ease of traveling with it. There are several holistic, natural food distributors that rate it very highly as well. I have loved the wonderful changes in their coat and teeth also!!

I do know several who have tried it and their dogs wouldn't touch it. All I know is my Sissy is a very picky eater and gobbled it up right away. I do rotate through the different formulas and the girls like each one!!!!!

I would definitely start with a trial package though, just to make sure your furkid will eat it. Good luck!!!!!!

:thumbup::thumbup: I have been giving it to Toto for a long, long time! She absolutely loves it [Force]. She is a very picky eater. Her vet was pleased and heartily approved it for her. When I add warm water and let it "steep" for awhile, it smells delicious ... no, I haven't tasted it! :p I add a teaspoon of minced, cooked chicken and a teaspoon minced, cooked, green beans and carrot and she inhales it! She will also eat it alone with nothing added. It is wonderful for traveling and I always know exactly what she is getting.

We tried it way back when - they like the 1st meal - then FORGET it. I tried adding stuff to it, everything - but no dice. I really wish my guys would've liked it bc I think the company is wonderful - great ingredients!

But, we feed NV Raw now - which I like better anyway. But Honest Kitchen is top-drawer stuff! :D

Thanks for all the feedback. I was leary about giving my baby something I wasn't familiar with. Now I can give it a try.

Bella loves it. i like knowing that it is freshly made every meal.

I get a 10# box and bella gets 1/4 cup dry twice a day.

i add a teaspoon of cottage cheese, cut up boiled chicken liver or sometimes sweet potatoe just to make it different.

Their web site even has recipes for stews and things you can make to use with the food.

Ps yorkie not included..hee hee hee

NO that is a DRY measurement only! Once it is rehydrated it almost doubles in size:D

OK ... as you all probably know, I have been a fan of The Honest Kitchen for a long time. This AM I found out another little tidbit about them ... their food is tested on HUMANS!!! :sidesplt: I always knew that it was "human grade" but I was really surprised when I read this!

So ... Toto and I still give it ... :thumbup::thumbup: :animal-pa:animal-pa

This is my first posting so I hope it is helpful. We recently switched our babies onto The Honest Kitchen. They were previously on Merrick and really liked that food, but I wanted to seek out something that was a little healthier. I emailed the reps at The Honest Kitchen and they sent me a few samples in the mail. Our babies LOVED them. I decided to make the switch even though it is slightly more time consuming. Everything went really well and the dogs seemed more 'regular' and full of energy. At night, I add a little pinch of ZiwiPeak into their bowls for an added meat source. It seems like the perfect combination for them. We have a holistic vet but he is apprehensive about raw diets. He loves THK because it is human grade and human tested. In his mind that is the safest way to go aside from preparing food from home by scratch. Overall I am extremely impressed!!

Someone who feeds Honest Kitchen can you tell me the following:

1. how much your yorkie weighs
2. feeding portion
3. what size box of honest kitchen you buy
4. how long your box lasts

I'm trying to figure out how HK compares with NV cost wise.

Hi. We have two yorkies that are about 3 1/2 years old now. Our male weighs 7 lbs and our female 5 lbs. I feed them each 2 oz in the morning and another 2 oz at night. I add about 3 oz of water and mix and let sit for about 10 minutes. It is the perfect amount but if I add Ziwipeak sometimes they cannot finish eating it all. The 4 lb box of Force lasts about 3 weeks. I am debating whether to buy the 10 lb box or two 4 lb boxes of different flavors next time. It is pricey, but The Honest Kitchen website has some nice deals when buying in bulk.

My girls each weight just over 5 lbs. They get 1/4 cup twice a day, which means I am using about 1 cup total each day. What I buy depends on the specials they are running. I like to rotate through Force, Embark and Thrive, so 4 lb boxes make that easy to do (each box last us just under a month), but the 10 lb boxes are the least expensive.

I would love to hear any additional YT reviews on this brand... both positive and negative. I am thinking about changing Breyli's diet to something a bit more healthier. I am pretty sure that she will eat it since she seems to not be a picky eater (surprise for a yorkie, eh?). Do any of you supplement with other foods or just Honest Kitchen with add-ins?
