Ekkkk!!! Need help on feeding!!!!!!!! I just switched my baby from Science Diet to Wellness venison and rice due to allergy problems. But he picked out all the SD and left the Wellness in his bowl!!!!! What do I do? |
:)I'm having the same issues!! My Paris is currently on Eukanuba and I wanted to switch her to something better. So, I tried Canidae and really didint like it. So, I went back to the store and got samples of Wellness and solid gold. As soon as I opened the bad she was barking and got so excited..There's a website that you can review, which, is pretty helpfull from want I have been reading they say to stay away from the 6 star and lean towards more the 5 star. good luck Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble |
I wonder if it would be a bad idea just to leave it down til he eats it? That's what I did with the SD, he wouldn't even eat that when I first got him, his owner was feeding him some store brand. |
how old is he? and how long have you had him? |
He's 13wks and I'm had him 4 wks. |
I have to agree that Wellness is a much better brand than SD. I do suggest leaving the Wellness down for free feeding and he will eventually eat it. There is also a product called Missing Link, which is EXTRA good vitamins and such. If you buy that too, sprinkle a bit on top, it is beef flavor and it might entice him more ;) |
I wish I had more advice but I unfortnately I dont. I guess now would be the time to switch him. Paris is also 13 weeks, 14 weeks on Monday and I had her for about 6 weeks. The breeder gave her to me really early:( bad breeder. i have also had some health issues with her but we love her and will do anything to help her along :p |

He still hasn't eaten any of it!!!! Yikes!!! What do I do? Do I wait longer or is it bad for him to not eat this long? |

One of those might entice him :p |
Get some baby food, exactly, real human baby food, flavored "rice and chicken" dinner and mix a teaspoon of it on his wellness food mixed half and half with the science diet to avoid diarreia. If you change suddenly because of his age he most likelly will have some diarreia. If he is such a baby , 13 wks, how do you know he has food allergies? SD is an excellent food as well, it is recomended by most vets, so it is better to keep him eating something he likes than risk having an hypoglicemia episode that will mess up his insuline levels and cause yet another more serious problem.... Are you in closed contact with the breeder? You should be... breeders know their puppies really well and have the "routines" to get them to eat and transition.... it will make it easir for you to know and i am sure that a loving and caring breeder will feell very good to have you going to them for this kind of advice... Good luck !!! |

Anyways.....I took the Wellness back to the pet store (thank goodness it has a good return policy!). I now got him Canidae and he likes it just fine. So I think he will be good now. I'm mixing it with the SD for a few days to help on his tummy. Then the rest of the SD I'm giving to my dad to feed his many beagles. |
Yeah i know... there are a lot of different opinions about these ingredients... but most foods have one or the other and since for the past 20 years dog food came a long way and dogs life expectancy have raised considerably ... it is still an issue to see ... Anyways i am glad you found a similar one that he likes... I have read good things about canidae although i have never tried it myself... Still intrigues me the fact that your very young puppy has allergies already.... Did you mention it to the breeder? Sorry to be insisting but this is something that should be "bred out" or lets say: the parents should not be bred together again to say the least... I am glad to hear that you worked it out... and i figure that by now you do not even want to consider replacing your baby .... already in love with ..... |

My Lily eats Wellness too, but she loves it. I also switched her from Science Diet. She REALLY, REALLY loves the Wellness canned puppy food. Sometimes I give her a tablespoon or so mixed in with the dry as a little treat. You could try that too. Also wondering: How much do you feed your little one? Lily is about 2.6 pounds at almost 9 weeks, but I haven't quite figured out how much she should be eating daily yet. I've just been feeding her three times a day until she stops eating. Which isn't much. |
