Double teeth? Ok Bailey's getting his adult teeth in (at 6 months I thought they were already all in) and it looks like his bottom canines are growing in behind his puppy canines  How long should I wait to see if they come out on their own? Or should I wait at all? I just called my vet and they said that I should bring him in for the vet to see him and see if we should do it now. Since we're not neutering him (at least not yet) they said anywhere between 6-9 months. Does that sound about right? And they gave me a price estimate of anywhere between $200 - $400 |
I am gonna wait untill 10 months to have my female spayed and any teeth removed. |
Pixie is about to be 7 months old and all of her adult teeth have come in.. she has two retained canines so they will be pulled when she gets spayed in about a week. I didn't have my Malt's teeth pulled when he was neutered because my old vet had assured me that they'd fall out on their own.. well he's now over a year old and still has those retained teeth.. luckily they aren't crowding his mouth but he gets so much food stuck in there. I've been putting off having them pulled because I really don't want to put him under for just that but I may have his teeth cleaned soon and have them pulled then. The price you were quoted sounds about right because it will involve putting him under. |
Wow 200-400 that is alot to have teeth removed i had charlies done when he was neutered (when he was 7 months old) and it only cost 130 all together! $30 was the teeth extraction and he had 6 teeth pulled! |
Wowser, that's a lot of dough! and Ouch Teddy has 2 retained canine teeth too so thanks for the warning in regard to the cost of removing them. |
 Has anyone's husbands/boyfriends pulled their teeth out themselves? I just talked to my fiance and told him about it and what the vet said and he said that's way too much $ and that he pulled our chihuahua's teeth out when she had extra teeth himself, so he wants to see if Bailey's is loose enough to pull out  He said they're dead so it won't hurt him. But I thought the vet gives them a pain killer for the pain afterwards? Has anyone heard of this before? |
Riley had double canines (on the top) for a long time. He is 10 months old right now. About a month ago, one of the puppy canines fell out. We are still waiting for the other one to fall out. If I were you, I wouldn't pull them out. If you are really worried about it, than just take your baby to the vet. |
How timley this thread is! Ralphie my beastie boy , had 6 teeth removed today. The bottom canines ( baby teeth ) and the bottom canines (adult teeth). The adult teeth were growing inside of the row of baby teeth.. and were hitting on the roof of his mouth.. since they would not be able to move into positon, all four were removed on bottom, and the two canines on top. They have very long roots, and would not wiggle out at all. Ralph is 7 months old.. its been one very rough day for him. My advise is.. do not wait too long as it could cause other problems..in a big way. My cost was $230.00. |
IMO its best to wait until spay/neutering or after 9 months. I would not put a pup under anesthesia unless I had to. Of course if they are causing a problem that's a different story. Most of the time though they just have 2 sets of teeth for a bit. I have seen puppy teeth fall out at 11 months old and not mess up the bite. Get out the rope, or clean tube sock with a knot tied in it or a chew bone (I use the corn starch ones) and let him work on getting the baby teeth loose. |
extraction on Monday Wow, I couldn't believe this question. I'm going through this right now, also, with my little Lee. He is 6 1/2 months and he has double canines top and bottom. The vet said the baby teeth should come out now because we don't do orthodonics on dogs and the adult teeth won't come in right to match up with the top teeth. I'm not having him neutered so there's no reason to wait. He's going in Monday morning. The estimate was about $200 for 4 teeth. It will be more if they see more baby teeth. Don't think I didn't reach in there and wiggle those baby teeth. LOL! Thought just maybe....... :D |
My Gucci still has her 4 puppy canines and thr four adult already came out. She needs them pull also. I willl ask my vet next week how much she will charge me. Gucci hasnt being spay yet and she is 1. |
I think, that unless the teeth are really, really loose, I wouldn't try pulling them. Play lots of tug of war games with him to help him loosen and lose them. Maddie was spayed at 7 months and didn't need any baby teeth pulled because she'd lost them all on her own. I think it was all the tug of war she played with her toys that helped her lose them. |

When Bella was spayed at 6 months her adult teeth didnt come in yet. Well, when they did come in, the doctor said to give it a few months to see if they will fall out on their own, they never did! We tried everything, we were brushing her teeth every other night. She had greenies, played with with all sorts of toys, and they didnt budge. She was like a shark with double row teeth! We finally decided to get them removed at 10 months and when we noticed that her breath was getting really REALLY REALLY bad! We started noticing decay was begining to grow, even though we were brushing her all the time, the food would stay in between the teeth long enough to turn black, it was so gross and I didnt want her to have to endure all that in her mouth. We had 7 of her teeth removed last week, it cost me $441.00!!! But its ok, personally, its worth it knowing that she nows has a clean and healthy mouth! |
My male had to have his pulled out by the vet, they let me stay in a watch, the size of the roots was huge, the full size of the baby tooth including the root was 3/4 inch long, it took digging them out and pulling with those plyer things,he had to have 12 removed and the cost was $6 a tooth and putting him out at $65.00 no way after what aI say would I even think about doing anything other than have the vet do it...whne you bought your yorkie you knew there would be extra costs, this is one,now my female lost hers on her own, after the roots desolved, and if the root desolves they fall out, but its in the yorkie lines that some just dont have the roots desolve, if you dont have them pulled out, it causes bacteria to grow with the caught food and then you have a 6 year old yorkie on baby food with no teeth, for me..the vet is the way I would go everytime after seeing with my own eyes |
