Maddie needs well wishes Maddie has been having such a time and in and out of the vet for the past month or more...seems like forever. The vet diagnosed it as colitis a week or two ago and she was on medicine and a new Hill's Prescription Food W/D. She started throwing up again and then got the messy stools and the last couple of days has had to go outside every hour or two and sometimes can't even make it to the door. The vet said today that she has Inflammatory Bowel Disease and he thinks it's affecting her stomach and colon since she's been throwing up so violently at times. He said the best way we could find out for sure what's causing it is to send her to the University of MN for a biopsy. He said he could do it here, but with such a small dog, he would have to do surgery to get to it and he said the University probably would have to also. Even with a biopsy, it doesn't always tell the cause of the problems. I am just sick with worry. For the time being now, she is on medication again and this time it will be for a month and then we will wean her slowly off the meds to see if she does okay. He said Maddie may have to be on this medication the rest of her life. She is also on a wormer just in case she has whipworms which would cause her symptoms, but are very hard to find in stool samples. I feel so bad and have been crying so much today, probably partly due to being soooo tired. I was up with Maddie most the night last night...following her around the back yard where she would be pooping up a storm...and the poop is gross...poor little thing is in a lot of pain. I've tried so hard to do everything right for Maddie and protect her from anything harmful, but this is just beyond my capabilities. All I can do is love her and make her as comfortable as possible and hope for the best. I'm hoping and praying that in a month, once she is weaned off the medicine, that she is able to function without it. She first had this problem at 4 1/2 months and now is 10 months, so she had quite a few months of no symptoms. Any prayers said for Maddie will be appreciated! Thanks for listening. |
Awww poor little Maddie. I'll be praying for her. Codie and Katie send her lots of hugs and kisses. PLEASE keep us posted on little Maddie's condition. |
My thoughts and prayers are for Maddie. |
Awwww, how terrible for her and you. You will both be in my prayers. It will be a relief when you find out what it is FOR SURE and then you can deal with it. Poor little thing. |
Oh Connie, Im so sorry that little Maddie has to go through this. I hope that everything works out well and she gets better soon. Preslee, Memphis, Recon and I will be thinking of her. :) |
I'll be praying for her . |
Poor baby, she is one of my favourites on this site, i send her well wishes with lots of warm hugs from me and my girls, she is so precious, its hard to see these little furkids in pain, she is in my thoughts and prayers! :rose: :getwellso |
Connie, I am so sorry that little Maddie isn't over this. We will certainly keep her in our prayers. Toto sends sweet puppy kisses!! |
Oh, bless your heart. Saying a prayer for her. Has your vet ever suggested withholding food for 24 hours when she is having this problem to give her system a rest? When Muffin had stomach upsets, that was what my doctor told me to do, but your case is different. Good luck and we'll be thinking about you and hoping for the best for little Maddie. |
I'm SO SO SORRY !! I hope they can figure this out ....poor little girl man - My heart goes out to you ! I really hope the doctor can treat her and that is something not quite so complicated ....what a shame - I wish we could send such positive thoughts that she gets better on her own....Your baby will be close to me and Chanel, Cheri and I send you ALL THE BEST .... Please hang in there and don't get discouraged ...sometimes it takes just the right lifestyle change or meds to work wonders and you will have a new baby girl ...This is very scary for you but hopefully not as bad as it sounds .... Big hugs to Maddie and you ....I hope they find out what's going on |
Cookie's been thinking about Maddie Hi Connie. I was just thinking about Maddie yesterday and wondered how she had been feeling since I hadn't heard much from you. Sorry to hear the bad news. I'm sure it's hard on you since you feel so helpless. I'm sure she's getting all the help she can get. Keep your hopes up. Maybe they'll be able to figure out what's making her sick and then they can get her all fixed up ;)! I will continue my prayers for you and Maddie. Cookie sends all her kisses to you and Maddie! :getwellso :getwellso :getwellso :getwellso :getwellso :getwellso :getwellso |
I am so sorry that you and Maddie have to go through this. I know what it's like to have a sick puppy with no answers. I will keep you both in my prayers. Please keep us updated and give Maddie big hugs and kisses from Sam and I. |
I'm sorry she is sicky-poo and hope she gets feeling better soon. |

Im so sorry that Maddie is sick. I hope the vets finds out what is wrong and is able to treat her. Poor little Angel. I hope she start feeling better soon. I will have her on my prayers. |
I'm so sorry Maddie isn't feeling well. Hopefully, she will only need to be on the medication for a month and then will be fine. I will keep her in my prayers - and you too since you won't feel better until she does. |
2 Attachment(s) Wow...you are all such sweethearts! Thanks to all for the well wishes and concern. Maddie seems a bit better and it's no doubt from all the prayers...thanks!!! I gave her a bath today...she was so messy, even though I'd been bathing her little behind quite often to get all the messy pooh out of her hair. I was almost to the point of shaving her butt completely! She hasn't had diarrhea since about 6 this evening, so it's been almost 6 hours! She hasn't eaten much today so that's probably one reason for it slowing down. After her bath, I put on one of her harness dresses and took her to the pet store and bought her 2 new toys. She doesn't normally get 2...unless it's the dollar store...but we first picked out one and then I saw the little monkey and couldn't resist! Her new toys seemed to up her spirits and she played with them, but she really tuckers out fast. I've been doing a lot of research on the net and think that if she has to have that biopsy, that I will have it done by my vet. It would suck to get to the university and find out they also couldn't do the endoscope because she is too small and from what I read, the surgery is sometimes better to do in the first place because if there is something there that needs to come out, they can do it at that time. I hope it doesn't come to any of that, but after reading about it, just thought that would be the best plan. Time will tell, I guess. Here's a couple of pics of Maddie with her new toys. Thanks again one and all...Maddie also says thanks!!! |

Our Baxter has had this problem off & on for yrs.Just went to a new Vet & he says it's Pancreatitis ,just takes some bloodwork to findout,we just got him home yesterday, feeding him alittle special food @ each feeding 5-6x pr day.Seems ok so far except he's really hungry & it's better to under tham over feed him @ this stage. Maddie's feeling better...hasn't thrown up today and only pooped once! She got up twice last night to poop, which sure wasn't bad compared to the night before...we actually got some sleep! She seems happier too...more like herself and has played quite a bit today, but tires out rather quickly! Her poor little insides are still rumbling and making all kinds of squeaks and groans. Hopefully tomorrow she'll be better yet! She sends puppy kisses to all!!! |

This might sound off the wall but oh so true, Sissy my first yorkie had all of the same symptons, and we awere also told it was pancretitis? sp, but the blood work never agreed, and sence she was my first I did what the vet said,he was god lol, in the end we found out she was very alergic to science diet food, lol, I started giving her bioled chicken mixed with rice green beens and sweet potatoe, just the tinyist bit about 6 times a day and she totally recovered..the vet didnt believe it was science diet, yet even if it wasn't she got better asap,oh, her first meal she was able to keep in that little body was gerbers chicken dinner |
Prayers and puppy kisses to Maddie...hope she feels better!!! |
