how much do your dogs eat I've been wondering if I'm feeding paddington properly since I've never really measured his food. He never used to eat a whole plate of dry food so I never worried about it. However, I finally got him on a consistant schedule and he's started eating more and sometimes even cleaning the plate. He also has jumped up from 5.3 to 6 lbs. He eats dry food in the morning (9:30am), after his hour of walk and play in the park, and then he eats a mix of wet and dry at 4:30 when my husband gets home from work. He eats Evanger's hunk of beef or whole chicken thigh wet food, and natural choice venison and rice for sensitive stomachs dry food. He'll be 2yrs old next month, and he's VERY active (like...he comes home from a three mile walk and still wants to play kind of active...and he does agility) I can still feel his ribs and waist if I push away his hair so I don't think he's fat yet. But I don't want him to get there. So if anyone has any idea how much of each he should get a day that would be great! ( also, is there a chance growing his hair out long could contribute to him gaining nearly a pound??) |

I also know that as they get older, they fill out more and more. |
My vet says the feeding directions on the package tend to be too much, to encourage over-feeding and as such, purchasing more product. You didn't say how much canned you feed. Gracie weighs about 6 to 6 1/2 pounds, far from fat but well nourished. She eats about 1/4 cup loaf type or 1/3 can of Evangers chicken thighs mixed with a small handful of kibble in the evening. For kibble, I feed Timberwolf Organic Wild and Natural. I keep dry out all day, she does not eat much of it, one quarter cup or so I suspect. Holly eats even less but she weighs only 4 lbs. When they lick the plate clean in the evening, I put out more kibble and 9 times out of 10 they will sniff it but not eat it. This is how I know they have had enough. It all depends on the age, size, weight and activity level of the dog, and the nutritional value of the food that they eat. |
Don't know if this will help. Mia is 5 and a half months, and very active. I feed her a total of 1/2 a cup of dry a day... 1/4 in the morning and 1/4 in the evening with a spoon full of wet mixed in. She doesn't usually eat all the dry in one day. |
