how do i get sammy to drink water how can i get sammy to drink water? he never drinks water ,and when he does it is only a few laps. his urine is dark and it stinks really really bad? any advice ? |
I wish I had an answer for you. My Katy drinks a lot of water. It had not been a problem for us. |
thanks , i wish i knew how to make him drink. i hope someone on yt will give me some suggestions. |
Add equal parts of water to his food, a YT mom advised this for my baby Nygee with kidney stones... If you feed 1/2 cup of food add 1/2 of water... I add a bit more and I warm it up a bit I feed her 1/3 cup and add 1/2 of warmed water... Its like feeding her soup and she loves it...I've also been doing that for Gizmo & Gypsy and they love it as well...This keeps moisture levels up... I figure this is the only way to make them drink plenty of extra water... Also can be done to wet food...Hope this works for you, cause its worked for us. :2hearts2:I Love My Furbabies, :aimeeyorkNygee, :aimeeyorkGizmo & :aimeeyorkGypsy!!:2hearts2: |
thanks, i have just tried doing this a few days ago , mixing his homecooked food with water. he is eating it, but he is not finishing the entire amount. i guess he is full from drinking the water first in the food . he also has had 2 accidents of peeing in the house, which he never does. i will have to let him out more often. i am going to watch his urine, because it has been pretty dark and smelly. thanks for giving me advice , i really appreciate it elle |
he just does not like his food anymore i have tried to mix half food and with water, but he really wont eat much and some days he goes without. he is not a water drinker. i do not know what to do with him. if he does not drink, i think he will get sick. ???? |
Hmm, I'm no expert but I wonder if he has a little urinary tract infection.... |
put ICE in the water bowl , my dog loves ice, its like ice cream for her:) |
Sounds like something serious is brewing, as it's natural for animals to need water and have never seen an animal not want much water.... except for a cat that died years ago from urinary tract infection. Maybe your water is offensive to the dog? Our water was tested to be some of the clearest around, so I'm feeling lucky. I'd hate to be a dog and have to drink water that absolutely offends my taste buds. Maybe bringing in purified or water from a different source may be what he needs. Also, not that I'm a dog, LOL!... but my doctor told me that urine very yellow is an indication of dehydration. I highly suggest a vet exam. Best of luck to you. Matthias |

I saw a new product in a Pet biz magazine. It helps entice dogs who dont like to drink water. It has a beefy smell and I believe adds vitamins too. Yep, I found it. It is called Doggy Java.(no caffienethough) You can find info at Doggyjava.com supports healthy joints and coat. I guess other dogs have this problem or they would not have developed the product;) oh and it was developed by Vets |

lexi doesnt drink much water either.. dont know why, shes always been like that.. |
I freeze skinny ice cubes with a little sugar in the water and give these to KiKi as a "treat"...she thinks they are "freezies" which she loves but they are very high in fructose syrup...so the frozen sugar water as ice cubes keep her hydrated and provide her with a little sugar too. |
This is the thread I needed! My baby has cystitis and so he needs to drink a lot more water. I just tried the ice cube idea and he loves it!! I now need to buy an ice tray with a skinny shape or something so he doesn't choke on it by accident. Any ideas of where I can get something like this? |
