Mandee, what has worked for me when feeding dry food is to add water to the food. It makes them slow down - think it must taste better too and this helps me know they are getting a good amt of water into their bodies |

I tried something that was suggested to me...putting a small bowl upside down in her food dish and spreading her kibble around it....it actually did slow her down a little. but she still didn't chew it much...just kind wiggled it in her mouth a bit LOL I am also going to the food store today to get some fresh green beans to start adding to her food. I caught maggie eating from tessa's bowl this morning  I think I might start feeding Tessa in her crate. she takes so long to eat..and maggie will sneak in as soon as I turn my head and help her finish her food LOL |
I had the same problem with Diddy. I bought the Petstages Treat Capsule and put his kibble in there. This way a few pieces came out at a time. He swallowed his food so fast, I felt like I wasn't giving him enough to eat and he was starving:D |

They sell some petite green beans in the frozen section, nuke about 5-7 for 30 seconds and cut them up really small. I replace half his evening meal with the green beans. My son's dog a golden retriever had a really bad eating problem, gulping the food so fast that he would regurgitate it, eat that, and often repeat the process; it was not pleasant to watch. A behavior expert suggested the submissive training and this worked on a three-year-old dog, I was amazed at how much better he ate. |
I wish I had that problem. Maverick just doesn't like to eat. I put his food down and he barely touches it. Of course if the cat food gets put down he runs to that. What type of food are feeding her? |
ok, i have been cutting up fresh garden green beans and putting them in with maggies food...putting an object in the middle of her bowl so she has to eat around it...and it is working GREAT so far. in fact, this morning, after eating, she just went and laid down!!! this is HUGE because she usually circles the kitchen and does circles around tessa as she is eating. so it was a big step in the right direction that she seemed satisfied enough to go lay down in the living room. also...it has slowed her eating down...she takes her time eating the green beans....AND her food :) thanks for all of the great advice. maybe now we can get her to lose some of her pudge LOL |
