BLUE Life Protection Formula Fish & Sweet Potato Adult Dog Food - Food Center - PetSmart

Nature's Recipe Flavors - Don't seem bad either

I wouldn't recommend Royal Cane - it has corn gluten meal and corn cause allergies.

If you are finding clumps of hair, you may need to def. start to feed her a better food and probably take her to th Vet.

hi (new to the forum). my yorkie is about 10 months old and currently we feed her eukanuba. here are the problems we are having. she eats her poo (yuck!) and she also scratches alot and is shedding (that may be normal though). im thinking she may have food allergies but i dont think she has been scratching the whole time, we thought she had fleas but we have sprayed her and there are no fleas but she still scratches alot. ive been looking at that natural balance but i would rather be able to go to pet smart and get the food than have to order it off the internet. she also eats grass, roaches, anything! which this may be normal. please help. thank you.

Yes change her food !!!! I would like to tell you about personal experience and you can decide what to do - as everyone (most everyone) on here knows i am a Yorkie lover and former show competitor, as well as a breeder.
I began with Great Danes in 1959 and changed to Yorkies in 1985- until 2007 I had always fed Iams, Eukanuba products. All that changed when i became aware of their research practices when i was enlightened by several YT members but the real reason for the change came about during the dog food scare . While Eukanuba was not on the recall list , evidently Iams decided to change their formula at that time because suddenly all 14 of my babies started to have problems as follows - I will make a list because it was so many problems and so sudden.
1. loose and STINKY stools
2. puppies and older dogs eating poo
3. dry itchy skin
4 dirty, watery, gunky eyes
5 dull looking coats
6 poor spirit in my usually energetic dogs
7 never seeming to be satisfied with what they ate
and the list could go on .

I researched and drove myself to find a better( the best ) food for all the kids and i finally settled on Lifes Abundance which has no fillers , preservatives etc - you can compare foods online at their website
Healthy Pet Home and what i found after about one week on it was so staggering that i am a firm believer that they are what we feed them.
I can't tell you the difference - poo that is set and small ,with hardly any ordor, clear eyes and the poo eating stopped completely .The coats changed back to the shiny , silky feel i was used to .

I understand about you saying you would rather go to petsmart or some place to pick up your food but let me tell you the reason this is not good -
Commercial dog food that goes to stores is made then sent to the warehouse where it stays till trucked to the store warehouse and then sent to the store - this process may take up to 6 months - time for oil and other indegredients to become rancid so therefore they fill it full of preservatives which most toy breeds are allergic to. If you get a food such as Lifes Abundance or one of the other fine foods you can only get on line - and i speak of LA as i know how that is made and shipped - it is made and shipped directly to you the same WEEK- from the time you place your order its about 3 days until it arrives via UPS at your door . I would seriously consider trying at least one bag of Lifes Abundance- You will be amazed - if you aren't i will refund your money if you order by going to Welcome to HealthyPetNet

Good luck but remember that the processed food found in the pet store may have been made a year ago. and that processed food is no better for our babies than the processed food in grocery stores if for your skin kids.
Sorry this was so long but it is something i am passionate about - the best food for the best dogs !!!

danny7481 05-10-2008 07:45 AM

did that food help with the gunky eyes? my yorkie gets gunk buildup around her eyes and its hard to get it off. i always have called it eye boogers, lol.

yorkiesmiles 05-10-2008 07:58 AM

Welcome to YT! Changing food may also help with the eye gunk -- I know it helped mine. Those corn allergies are awful.

Blue Buffalo is a good food. Do you have a specialty pet store around? I would highly recommend Innova.

Here's another idea - write some companies and ask for samples - I emailed a ton and got so much! Here's a thread with lots of addresses of good food : http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html

Or you might want to consider home cooking - many swear by it and it makes you think about what your feeding yourself too  - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...od-treats.html
A good book for deciding how to feed homecooked is Dr. Pitcairn's Complete guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats

If the spices don't work - there are products to use that are to help the poo eating including Solid Gold's SEP - yes that stands for what you think ;) Solid Gold Health Food for Pets

Also, here's a good site for buying food online at a discount Pet Food Supplies Dog Cat Bird ... PetFoodDirect.com

hasrv4fun 05-10-2008 07:58 AM

YES-its just one reason i love it - i feed it to all my kids - i have fed it now nearly a year and can't tell you what a change it is in every one from my oldest to youngest. Mama Kas, Peyton, Molly, Sophie, Sugar, Magic, Carley, Sally , Precious, Zoey , Eli, Teddy, Ian and Pistol all cleared up on the eye gunk and other symptoms within a week .

Try it -

danny7481 05-10-2008 10:58 AM

well we bought the blue buffalo fish and sweet potatoe, she seems to like it. hopefully it will like her. lol thanks everyone.

yorkiesmiles 05-10-2008 11:06 AM

Glad she likes the Blue Buffalo!! Thanks for the update :)

yorkiesmiles 05-10-2008 11:08 AM

if she keeps itching, it may be because she has some dry skin from the other food though, so you may want to find a shampoo and conditioner with Oatmeal in it

That good.

I have read it takes about 30 days to start to make a difference with the food allergy stuff. And as other have said, you might need to bath her with a shampoo specially made for sensitive skin. Also, make sure that you rinse well, b/c the soap residue can cause intense itching. Try to get an all natural brand with no extra junk in it. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) can cause problems for sensitive skin, so read the label and don't use a product that has SLS in it. Also, sometimes it is best not to use a conditioner, b/c again with sensitive skin, condition may also sit on the skin as residue and cause problems.

I hope all works out and keep us posted.
