To snip or not to snip I'm having issues with deciding on whether or not to neuter my Yorkie Jac, he's right at the age where the vet said is optimal for neuter, but im having a stroke of consious. I actually didn't think twice about it until my husband mentioned that it could change him (and then argued with me about his "manhood"). Like his attitude or other things. I need help in making this decision! I love My Jac more than anything the way he is NOW and wouldnt want him to change at all, he doesnt have any really bad habits. But will he get them if i dont? will it change him if i do? I need some help so i can make an educated decision! I have a while because he has to get over whatever ailes him before we can neuter him but I might need that long to make up my mind! Any input is welcome! |
Neutering is the best decision for him. It's a quick and easy procedure and he'll quickly be back to his old self. Usually they start to calm down a little around the time of their neuter anyway, but most dogs seem to be a little calmer after being spayed/neutered. Mine are both pretty active though..my girl more so than my boy. Their metabolism does slow down some so you its important to only feed the amount they need and to not overfeed. Neutering doesn't cause dogs to get fat..overfeeding and underexercising does. Both of my dogs are a great weight right now. I feed them the appropriate amount and they go on walks and play. other than that, neutering does not change their personality. He may not be exhibiting bad habits now, but I promise you it will start if he isn't neutered. He'll begin to lift his leg and mark, and once they start marking it can be very difficult to stop it. Intact males also hump more and have a higher incidence of being aggressive. They can also smell a female in heat up to a mile away and may do anything to get to her, including escaping from your house or yard and getting hurt in the process. If a female in heat is near, most males will pace, whine, and not eat for days at a time. Neutering him will eliminate the risk of testicular cancer and enlarged prostate. He'll be happier and healthier if he is neutered. |
So i dont set feeding times now, should I? I just leave out a bowl of hard food and give him soft food right now when i give him his medicine, he doesn't eat the hard food if he isn;t hungrey, sometimes we have to make him stay in the room and eat because he loves being around us sometimes he will forget to eat and get an upset tummy! Do you feed at certain times? and how do you go about doing that? jac is self suffieciant and I dont think he eats if he's not actually hungrey because we fill his bowl (about a cup give or take a little) and it takes him sometimes 2 days to finish it....(and a couple tablespoons of soft food a day) |
