bathing? how often? i just got my 3 month old yorkie a few days ago, and i was wondering how often i should bath him. I heard once a week from some, but others say only every other week. If someone knows anything about this, i would love to hear it. |
I take my girls a bath every week. They get pretty stinky by the last day and if my bf says "phew" when they come into the room then it's time.:) (Actually they're not THAT bad, they just get the doggy smell). I think it really depends on their coat (some of them get oily fast) and their skin. If they have dry itchy skin it's better to wait longer between baths and use an oatmeal shampoo. I hope this helps. :) |
I bath my little one once a week. It's funny because I have two little girls (human) with lots of hair who hate to get it washed and on Sundays they know it's "hair night" for Paisley too! |
Bengi gets a bath once a week |
I also bathe mine every week..... |
My girlies go to the groomer every three weeks for the full treatment. I bathe them once in between. They get mighty smelly if they play outside a lot, and usually they get wet from the pool. They don't really go swimming too much, but my hubby splashes a lot:laugh: |
Once a week. They need it about every 5 days but I wait until the weekend. After a while it's not worth washing face/head/butt/feet and you might as well just give them a bath! |
All of mine get a bath once a week it keeps them nice and clean. |
Coco gets a bath once a week, sometimes 5-6 days. But she gets a paws wash after morning walks because of the dew and wet sidewalks. And after afternoon walks it's only a wipe of the feet since it's not as dirty. Sometimes I wish I don't have beige carpeting...... :p |
I've always bathed my Westie once a month and planned on doing the same for my new Yorkie, but found that she needs one once a week. She's also on the couch and everywhere else in the house, so it makes that much of a difference. All I have to do for my Westie is brush him every few days...Trixie (Yorkie) needs a brush just about daily. I love it when she's clean ... she gets more hugs. I think Westies are more proned to dry skin. |
Pookie plays outside a lot. If he gets dirty, I bathe him. Sometimes it can be a couple times a week. I just have to make sure his skin doesn't get dry. |
What do you use to make sure your baby doesn't have dry skin? I'd like to wash Coco more, but always afraid of making her skin dry. |
I bathe mine every week. |
My pup gets a bath about every week to week and a half. I take him to the groomers every 4-6 weeks.:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
I bathe Meeko once a week too |
My two get a bath once a week. When they were puppies it was twice a week as they were into much more trouble. But I keep Faiths hair pretty long so we use wipes to keep her potty clean. |
once a week and i groom them myself once a week, including haircuts. |
I bathe my two once every 10 to 14 days. Kimchee always smells fresh even on the 10th day, but he starts scratching usually on the 10th day. Mochi smells bad all the time, even a few days after the bath. I think she needs a bath every week. |
We just started Hot Rod every 2 weeks because of a medicated shampoo and oatmeal conditoner for dry skin. Before that, we were told to wait at least 3 weeks. He was/is groomed every other month and we were bathing him once a month in between. |
yay im glad i seem to bathe paddy the same amount as everyone else...once a week if he gets in mud...once ever 10 days if there isn't mud around for longer lol |
Sorry to bring up an older thread but am just wondering about bathing. With our last Yorkie he got groomed every 4-6 weeks and we bathed him once a month (unless he had fleas or was really dirty). We are doing the same thing with these guys and are using Oatmeal shampoo to help with dry skin/allergies. Is once a month not enough? I had figured that once a week would be too much so am curious. Thanks, Mel Jackson & Jagger |
If they stay inside mostly and don't become "stinky", then that may be enough. I live in the South and when we have warm days, my baby loves to romp around all over the yard. Plus, he sleeps with us, so I have to keep him fresh. I can't stand a stinky dog in my bed. ;) I tend to bathe every week and a half and sometimes I can stretch it to two weeks, but that's pushing it. He goes to the grooomer and get professionally cleaned up and trimmed every 5-6 weeks! :animal-pa |
