OMG-- poop eating!!! Need advice pls One day Chewie ran off into the house and didn't come back for a while. Hubby and I finally found him behind a coffee table. He looked up at me with a huge chunk of poop hanging from his mouth  My jaw dropped. Since then we've caught him a couple more times. He'll run off to hide, poop and snack. Why is he doing this all of the sudden? Chewie is coming up on 4mo old. Thanks in advance! |
Hey there...I just posted something on this in someone's blog. He is not getting the balance of protein he needs and his food isn't digesting completely. So he smells the undigested food in his poop and he is eating it to get the nutrition. Feed him "fresh" pinapple after he eats his food. A couple of small pieces. It tastes great going down but bitter when coming out. He should stop eating his food then. Look on the board for ways to safely increast his protein intake. Mixing high protein food with his regular food. Another reason pups/dogs do this is to immulate what they saw their mother do to clean up after them when they messed up their area after birth. However, if this is the case he would have started eating immediately. Hope this helps. |
Wow...that's better news than I expected. My friend told me it's a sign he has worms so that freaked me out. We've got a vet visit in 2 days so I'll definitely bring this up then. It's weird too...we just switched his food about 2weeks ago and that seems to be when it started. He's eating the Blue Buffalo brand mix for puppies with lamb as the main meat ingredient. I hate to switch the food again because of what it does to his tummy and also that brand isnt cheap. Thanks again for your help! |
Awe, you are very welcome! Sure thing. If you are able to look at the old food and the new food and compare nutritional value...etc. Maybe you will see something. It maybe as simple as you adding canned food mixed with the new food. I'm sure your vet will advise you. |
