Help with cutting nails... My wee yorkie is 18mths old and i used to take her to my local pet parlour to get her nails done, but she gets very distressed each time they cut her nails. While i was at my mothers, i took her to the vet to get her nails clipped as they dont have a pet parlour nearby, and she got very distressed again. The vet said as she get so distressed it would be better to not bother cutting her nails and as i walk her on the road that should keep her nails down. So i tried that and sure enough her nails arent giving her any bother apart from the dew claws. I can sometimes managed to cut the odd of her nails while shes in the bath but its never a whole foot let alone all her paws! And the dew claws do worry me as they grow curly and i worry they will dig into her skin. The vet said i can get them removed if i want, which im considering. So any help/ideas on trimming her nails and dew claws would be greatly appreciated! :) |
Wrap her Like a burrito- Snug- Leave one paw out at a time, Before you know it you wont need the blanket. Do Snipet's weekly So she get's use to it. |
thank you will def give that a go :) |
Don't know what to say. I used to cut mine and he just got worse and worse and now he won't let me. I will try wrapping him like a burrito. Right now, I have a groomer with 26 years of experience that does his nails. She is the only one he allows to cut his nails. |
Have you tried using a Dremel tool or a Peticure? Franklin HATES getting his nailed clipped but he does okay with the Peticure.... Also, another thing we've found that helps is to first wrap them up in a blanket and second, giving them at treat they really have to work at so it keeps them distracted. We just stuff Franklin's kong full of peanut butter.. |
try a grinder Try getting or going to a new pet parlour that uses a Dremel to grind the nails. Far less traumatic then clipping. |
hi every one thanks for your input, i did a search for the Peticure tool but apparently you cant buy it in this country, tho there is a dremel pet tool that you can buy. Im just trying to find some where to buy it other than ebay! nothing is coming up in searches but im sure some of the big pet stores must have it! |
