something i just found out about male yorkie anatomy hey... i just wanted to post something for anyone that might have had the same question/curiousity as me... sorry if this makes anyone uncomfortable as it is about a male's "sexual" anatomy, and may have some sensitive words. i had Kash neutered this past Thursday, but i had noticed afterwards that there were still two small circular formations right at the base of his wee wee... i was confused because before i had gotten him neutered, i thought THOSE were his testicles... i was also a little nervous that either the vet didn't neuter him (LOL!) or there was something wrong down there, like a tumor or something... well, i did some research on the Internet and found out that a dog's testicles are much lower (closer to the bottom towards his bum), and the two "balls" at the base are called "the bulbous glandis." apparently, those glands swell up when a dog becomes aroused and is what "locks" a male and a female in the "act" while mating, and they are not removed during a neuter. so, that's part of the reason why male dogs still hump even after being neutered. they just can't procreate because they don't have the little swimmers inside them anymore. mostly the reason for humping after neutering is to show dominance because, without testicles, ejaculating is out of the question. i know, i know... i feel pretty stupid now that i know the facts. but i'm relieved too! i'm sure many breeders (or members) on YT would have been able to tell me all this, but i didn't want to post a thread asking about it... thanks! |
I was like you too!! I didn't think they had neutered him!!:D |
I noticed this too with my Crested. [no fur makes every thing obvious] But there were obviously no marbles in his sack. So I wondered what those other little balls were and now I know;) I learn something new every day. |
What? Excuse my ignorance. So when you neuter a boy, he still humps things. I was under the impression that it just turn to a "girl" with a penis:eek:. What I mean no leg raising, and no let me pee all over the place to stablish my place. |

Thanks for the Anatomy Lesson. :aimeeyork  I never knew! |
That's why its really important that you have them neutered before they get very old. Then you don't normally have that issue. |
I'm glad you posted this! I've noticed those "balls" too on A.J and have wandered what they are. On a side note, I had A.J neutered at 6 months old and he's always squatted to pee UNTIL recently...the neighbors beside us just moved in with a male german shepard that is constantly marking his territory. I've noticed that A.J has started to lift his leg now too! |
The humnping this happens with any ofg them.. My boys don't try to hump much at all since they were nuetered.. But Tilly (my poodle) is always trying to hump Ladybug.. She doesn't care that they are both girls.. and what is funny is Ladybug is the dominant one.. Tilly is the shy one.. go figure |

Just last weekend, the boys were outside and Reggie lifted his leg on the bush. Coby was standing in the middle of the flat yard and was watching Reggie. It was hilarious to watch him studying Reggie so intently and s-l-o-w-l-y lift his leg right in the middle of the yard trying to practice. Today we went to the park and he tried lifting his leg against a tree again - this time he hit the tree with the leg he was lifting. Poor boy! ;) (And Reggie's a big dominance humper ) |

Your post was so cute and funny!!! Sounds llike little Coby is just having a little trouble with the balance issue!!!!;) |
my boys dont lift their legs they both squat. but i took them to the dog park and everyone around them were lifting legs...(i think it is gross) so i started praying that they wouldnt learn to do that. and guess what!!! as soon as we got home he went in to the backyard and squated!!!!! thank GOD! i had them neutered as soon as possible so that might have done the trick! anyway...i know im weird but i just cant stand it! lol |
wow-i never knew this. i assumed those two balls were his testicles too, now i feel stupid. lol. my Teddy squats when he goes-ive only seen him lift his leg if he is trying to pee on a stop sign lol. He has never humped legs either, but had humped a stuffed toy once before he was neutered, i havent seen that behavior since.. thanks for sharing! i learned something today. |

Sounds like Coby's lifting his legs for all the same reasons as A.J is....ATTENTION!!:D He only does it if another dog is outside, if noone's watching he squats! |
ehe thanks for the info... |

No vets around here will do it before 6 months of age. |
thats really good info, my Kuma still tries to hump my leg once in a while trying to dominate and i correct him but its one of those things i dont think he will change, we got him nuetered 6month. |
well we dont know Teddy's true age. the last owner didnt care for him and she didnt want or like him-she told me he was 4 months old. i took him to the vet that week and the vet said he was at least 7 months old! he had all of his adult teeth. We got ted last June.. so, we are assuming he is just slightly over a year now (he hadnt even seen a vet or had any shots til we took him!).. and we had him fixed in February.. so he was a year old (we are guessing. |
Wow...you DO learn something new everyday here, LOL! I had noticed those little lumps on Max a long time ago (haven't noticed them lately or I've just gotten used to them)...I knew they weren't his testicles, but I didnt' know what they were! Now I do! Thanks! |
omg i dont want to sound stupid, but i thought the same thing after my mom had her yorkie boy neutered!! thanks for the info! |
Learn something new every day! I would have wondered too! Thanks |
My zeus squats in the middle of the yard, but if he finds a fence or a tree he hikes it. Augie still squats in the house, we are just starting outside potty. Zeus was neutered at about 7mos old. I only see those glands when he wakes up sometimes. Not sure what he dreams about but boy oh boy does he look excited :D |
Relief I was just about to call my vet. I have a 7 month old yorkie and just noticed these a couple days ago. I was really worried. Thank you for posting a 'private' topic! |
I must admit I only knew this because I had a short haired jack russell male before Hedley, and in a short haired dog it is more obvious what is where and what it does if you know what I mean! On a short haired dog, the testicles are visible at the rear end! After neutering he has an empty scrotum! They do still cock their leg though. |
Years ago when I had Uno neutered I asked the vet the same thing. I had him neutered when he was old enough to have the procedure. Then, about a year later his marking problem started. So...it can still happen. Sigh. |
