Weird puppy fur stage? or is something wrong? My Brutis is a 4mo old mix. When he was younger he had thick fuzzy fur. In the last two weeks or so he went through a flaky skin thing not ichy or any thing just flaky. That has pretty much stopped. He is losing his puppy fuzz and looks really scruffy. Long hairs, short spots. Is this normal or is there something wrong? I know they transition to an adult coat but do they start doing it this early? I talked to a girl who had a pure breed and she said her dog didn't go through this. Has any one else's dog go through this or is this a symptom of something? |
I think it would really depend on what he is mixed with. Do you know? Also many yorkies go thru what we call the ugly duckling stage at about that age. Of course we ALL KNOW there is never an ugly yorkie PS welcome to Yorkie Talk. Sonya |
What is your puppy mixed with? it could be the other breeds coat characteristics:confused: My bichon/maltese mix had maltese hair as a puppy but now she is all bichon coated:D Hope this helps a little. |
Hi Sunnie He is 1/4 poodle but his hair is very straight. I think he is too cute all scruffy looking I just want to make sure it is normal |
Welcome to YT :) |
Are you saying his hair is breaking off? Could you post a picture? You say "long hair short spots" so I'm not sure what you mean. I had a poodle and they don't do this and neither do yorkies so there might be something else going on |
Sound's like it trying to figure out what kind of hair it want's to be But i can't say unless i saw a pic if you worried take a trip to the vet. |
I can't find my camera right now. I don't think it is breaking off. The longer stuff is shiny and doesn't seem brittle. His long hair is only like 2-2 1/2 inches long and wear it is shorter it is like 1/2 inch. The base of his neck is short. The hair on his legs is short except down the back like fringe. His tummy and a little up the sides is short. The base of his ears is short and his back in mostly longer hair with short places here and there. He looks scruffy. He has no itching, and is healthy playful. But if no one else's pup went through a scruffy stage then I need to start looking into what can cause a weird coat. |
Milo is a yorkie poo, I got him at 7 months old, and the breeder told me that he lost his puppy hair at around 4 months, so that seems about right. |
Maybe he's just losing his puppy coat and his adult fur in growing in. |
Pictures I finally found the camera:) and have posted a couple of picts of Brutis in my album. So any one interested in seeing the little scruffy please take a look!!:D |
He is very cute, I would not worry so much as long as new hair is growing in |
Thanks for your replies!!:) I have been searching the web for any medical reason his fur could be doing this and every thing I have found is really really unlikely. So I at this point am going to assume his adult hair coming in isn't keeping up with his puppy fur coming out. With a mix who knows what you are going to get.;) So I think I am going to make sure to take picts. every month or more and put them in my album to sort of document the process. Maybe a year from now some one else will have a little guy with funny fur  |
