Sal was neutered today and now what? What do I do next? I brought the reuseable male diaper this morning how do you put them on him? What do I watch for? How long will it take until it heals? How long for he can take walks? Can you leave them alone for a while? Should we change his food to just soft? Please help! I have never had my furbabies neutered |
I don't think you have to do anything different except keep him, as much as possible, quiet for a day or two. Other than that I hope all goes well and he's home before you know it. Buddy was quiet for the first day then back to his crazy yorkie self running around like a looney tune. |
Cathi I would watch to make sure he doesn't lick the suture sight to much. If so then I'd use the diaper or put a onesie on him. Other than that he should be kept quiet for a week. (yeah right!!!) |
Awww I hope he's feeling ok. Jamie just got neutured last month so I know what you're going through. Just keeping Jamie from running around like a maniac and jumping for a week was a battle. AND I couldn't bathe him for a week and a half which drove me nuts. I'm sure you'll do fine. Mostly I think they set their pace. If he'll eat his regular food I would keep him on it. He can probably go back to going on walks in a week or so. And yes you can leave him alone if you have a band or a onsie on him so he can't lick his stitches. Good Luck! |
Take it easy for a few days...no walks...just go outside so he can do his business no jumping or rough play he should be healed in about a week dont let him chew on his stitches either! an e-collar helps too if needed =) |
Kash got neutered yesterday too! i'm freaking out about leaving him alone, even for 1 minute because i don't want him to lick his stitch (yes, he only has one singular stitch, lol!). anyway, i'm going to a couple places today to find a onesie small enough to fit him. it's hard to find preemie baby clothes locally... i wish i'd known to get one before his surgery but i only found out about it yesterday while he was at the vet... so i called around and there are a couple places that MIGHT carry them. he's at work with me right now, but after the weekend, i have to go back to work on Monday alone... he'll probably pee in his onesie since it covers his wee wee... anyway, he's very calm right now (i'm assuming he feels different without his manhood and is probably in some pain). i've only taken him outside to go to the bathroom, no long walks. i pick him up to go up and down steps. oh, and it hurts him to go #2... the vet said when he strains to get it out, it puts pressure on the area where they cut out his "you-know-whats." he yelped today when he pooed. i felt so bad. good luck with Sal. |
Update Sal is doing fair We have to uses ice packs because he is very swollen and he is having a hard time moving around with out crying. We had to move his pillow to the living room. The vet said that we can not let him alone for 10 days or until the swelling is gone. I have used a male diaper on him and try to keep him wrap in a towel. He is very scared and looks like he is in pain. So we try to comfort him the best we can. Thank you all |
Bump I just want everyone to know what is going on |
Awww, poor little Sal! Gosh, it's been so long since Max was neutered I hardly remember anything about it! He seemed a little uncomfortable when he first got home the first night, but after that, it seemed like a breeze. I kept the collar on him only for the first night, just b/c I was afraid he might lick while I was sleeping, but he slept all night and then I kept the collar off and just kept an eye on him; he never did lick it. I have to get Madison neutered though and he's at least 2 yrs old....wish someone had done it when he was a baby, but I suppose that would have defeated his purpose:(. And Madison is a LICKER!!!, so I know it's not going to be such a breeze! Good luck with the little guy; hope he's feeling lots better tomorrow. Keep us updated, OK? |
