Natures Variety help please?? Okay, Ive done some searches about this, but still need some help, so any I get will be much appreciated. I have a new almost 6 month old yorkie boy, Hunter. Of course I want him to be on the best diet possible, so I have been trying to do lots of research. The breeder had him on grammy's mix of Merricks. The vet told me I should have him on puppy food, so I have been slowly switching him over to Merrick's puppy plate dry, which he has available all day, and I mix a little canned in twice a day. I am very interested in NV, though, because I am all the time worried about these manufacturing problems. I am a little confused though, in my research. What are the real differences in the instinct, prairie, and the raw? Is one better than the other? I saw where some mixed between them, but feed at different times of day b/c of the digesting time? And the vet said a puppy should be on puppy food b/c of energy and nutrition requirements, so would these meet those? I would def. like to give it a shot...it seems great, the decreased bowel movements, then dental benefits, but it does seem pricey. So if do start Hunter with a switch, is there a formula you recommend I try first so I am not just blindly buying. Again, sorry for all the questions, love all the info. on this site and can't wait for your feedback. Thanks!! |
Many of the premium foods are for all-life stages, which means they meet the requirements for puppies as well. NV Prairie foods have grains and lower protein. Instinct is grain-free and high protein, and their kibble is actually coated with freeze-dried raw so it is 3% raw. The raw is the best choice in my opinion...it is grain free, and I raw is the way dogs were designed to be fed. Raw food is in its most natural and healthy form with the most nutritional benefits...no fillers. I've been feeding NV raw for two years now with great results. |
I use the NV medallions (raw) for Myah who is almost 5 months. She has been eating this since she came home. I feed her 2 a day and leave out the NV instinct (dry kibble) for her and my Bichon. I use all of the "flavors" and give them something different everyday. You can switch cold turkey or gradually. I mixed the raw with the kibble for my Bichon as she gets sick if she has either one alone and it is a wives tale that you can't feed the 2 together. Yes they digest differently but all different foods digest differently so there isn't a problem. |
Should I still mix these with the kibble he's on and do a combo of both to cut down on the stomach upset? Or can I just switch completely? Also, is there a flavor that is easier on the digestive system I should try first? Thanks so much for the quick help. I am looking to try to get out to the store to get some on Weds, so trying to get as much info. as I can before then. |
