My Lil Paw Chewer My yorkie chews his paws a lot and I was wondering what the reason may be for this? Does anyone know? He chews and chews until his paws are really wet. Can I do anything to stop his little chewing obsession? :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
Zoe does the same thing...hate to say it but until she was about a year I couldn't understand why she always chewed especially on the side of her paw...she always had thick long leg hair..one day I happen to rub closer to the skin and what do you know she has her dew claws! I dont know why they are there, they were supposed to be out but breeder never answered me so maybe she was missed? |
Chewing/licking/biting paws is THE cardinal sign of an allergy in dogs - so it could be from food, environmental, or seasonal. What are you feeding? |

I was feeding him Diamond Puppy Food but have just switched to Innova Puppy Food. That is what he was being fed when I got him (Diamond Food) Unbeknownst to me, I had no idea that the Diamond Food had by-product and such in it but the Innova is all natural so maybe that will help. Keeping my fingers crossed..... |

yes thats the dew claw. Besides changing diet for alergies, try mixing vinegar and water and spraying on the paws. It soothes and they chew less. I just read that not too long ago and it works |
My T.J. has been chewing his legs:paws for 10 years. My vet says it is a nervous habit like biting nails and if you stop it he will just do something else. It isn't necessarily allergies. I he's not scratching or biting anywhere else it could be just an obsession like you said |

my puppy chews her paws sometimes, usually when she is trying to bite my fingers when I'm petting her and I let her know that ain't happenin', she starts chewing her own paws instead. If I give her a toy when she starts doing it, she'll chew that instead. She just wants something to put in her mouth. |
My pom did that off and on for 13 years and he was healthy in every other way. He didn't do it all the time. It was weird. |
