allergy question Hi, I was wandering what the vet does to test for allergies. When I first got my puppy he was itching like crazy and was on royal canine, then I switched him to iams, which I didn't realize at the time that it wasn't the greatest food but he never was itchy when he was eating that. I then switched to the hundchen flocken lamb puppy solid gold food about a month ago and he just keeps scratching away. |
Maybe that's it! I was just getting ready to start a thread about my dog itching all the time. I never thought she could be allergic to her food. My female, Lily, only does it. Tucker doesn't hardly ever scratch. I hope someone else posts some advise. |
Allergy testing is expensive and also unreliable - so just keep that in mind. There can be a lot of false positives - and a good vet will even tell you that. As for foods - I could find one thing common w/ RC and Hundchen and that was Flaxseed - which does bother some dogs bc they cannot convert it and it is grain related. But, pollen is also in season - so then I wonder if the itching is from that...? The Hundchen is a pretty darn good food. I mean, you could go with something grain free and flax free - I'd recommend Natures Variety Instinct Duck and Turkey - bc they still their omegas from the Herring. :) |
