How early can Pookie be neutered? My Pookie is 17 weeks old. At his last vet visit I discussed the possibility of neutering him right away. The vet told me that I couldn't do it until his testicles descended. What harm is it to neuter him now as opposed to waiting until his testicles drop? I understand that he will squat to pee, I don't care about that. He's a very healthy 4.5 lb baby. What do you guys think? |

Oh, yes, the difference in surgeries can be BIG. You're talking a teensy, quick incision vs. potentially abdominally invasive surgery if they never drop (and have to go *look* for them). Did your breeder sell you this baby without informing you that the testicles had not yet descended? That would be kinda...questionable... |

Ann is right. I'd wait until they drop before going to surgery. much less invasive |

I'd wait until 6-7 months to see if they descend first, but if they haven't descended by that time, I'd go ahead and neuter anyway. |

My make Diggy was 8.5 months when he was neutered. |

Bailey is nearly 6 months he had his done yesterday and is now running around with one of them little cones on his head. His was so small and had not dropped, but they still went ahead an done it. He has 3 little stitches and he seems fine with it, aint bothered him one little bit. He was a little bit sleepy last nite bit apart from that and the cone on his head i wudnt know he had it done to look at him.. unless he rolled ova hehe!! |

Is it after they have dropped? I heard that if you do it to early the hormones make the puppy bigger than what he would normaly be. When have the hormones finished their job and it can be done, without making the puppy a bigger size than he should be? |

Our vet wouldn't do it until Rudy was at least 6 months old. That's when we got him neutered, @ 6 months. Sorry, I can't answer the testicle problem. Rudy's had both dropped till then. |
