Tooth question I have not taken Jake to the vet yet about this, he has two teeth on the left side of his mouth. Both are the canines. His adult canines came in right beside the baby canines. Is this something the vet will have to remove? I have been trying all sorts of chew toys and raw hide bones but they still seem to be in there good. When I looked at them this morning, the baby canine right behind the adult canine on the bottom is no longer a white color, and has become discolored. I guess i just need to know if the vet should be able to take care of that or is there something that ya'll reccomend? Josh |
They may or may not come out on their own, Josh--you're doing the right thing by giving him stuff to chew to make them fall out. Another great thing you'll notice soon is the "foul stench of death" breath from the food that gets stuck between the 2 sets of teeth! Many of us have the vet pull the baby teeth when our babies are neutured. That way, they only need to go under anesthesia one time. I know it sounds like a lot, but Basil was neutured, had 7 teeth pulled and was microchipped all at the same time. I was sure I'd be picking up a very sick little guy that afternoon, but he was bouncing around like a nut and ate like a horse when he got home.:p |
Thank you! I just wanted to make sure if that was normal. My last dog was Saint Bernard and he never had that problem when he started teething. |
The best thing to do is have them pull out if they don't come out on their own, as it can cause them alot of problems in the future. Most vets will do this when the dog is neutured or having the teeth cleaned. I would talk to your vet about the best options for Jake. Yorkies are known to have bad teeth but if you keep them clean and in good health they can go a long time without any problems!! Good luck!! |
My 1 1/2 yr. old Chipper still has one baby canine. Saw the vet lately and she said it needs to come out. It still appears healthy but it needs to go. Wish I didn't have to put him under. |
yes leaving themin can casue infections and damage to adult teeth. Id have it extracted when your vet recommends it. |
Not sure how old you little one is, but usually the retained baby teeth can be pulled when they are spayed/neutered. Tessa had 2 canines that had to be pulled. |
Yeeth issue I am glad I am not the only one having this problem. My yorkie seems to have some extra teeth on the top front as well. A freind told me that this was a sign that she was genetically inferior. Does anyone know if this is true? SHe is not a show dog or elitest breed but I did purchase her from a reputative breeder and both her paretns had been genetically tested and in good health. I have heard it is best practice to remove teeth when they are being neutered:) |
i am in the same situation idk if i want to put my baby through that but i also want whats best for her. the vet suggested i get her spayed at the same time. |
