Full Grown Weight? Hi everyone, I am new here, just got my "little furball" last Friday for my birthday. He will be 3 months old tomorrow, and currently weights 3.5 lbs, is there anyway for me to have an idea how big he's going to be when fully grown? His dad is not much larger than he is now, and his mom is a little bigger than the dad. At what age do they reach full size? I was at Petsmart yesterday and there was another yorkie there, they looked to be the exact same size (height, length etc), but my puppy weighed more. Almost a whole lb more! One of the groomers there commented on how healthy my Garrett appeared. She said his hair was very thick and glossy, his nose and paw pads where supple, and she said his body felt quite sturdy. I was more than happy to hear this naturally, but was puzzled by the weight difference with the other puppy, who looked quite fine to me. The lady I got him from has the parents, and the dad's sister, and they are extremely gorgeous and well cared for, so I expected nothing less of my puppy. Just curious about size etc. |
I'm cluless on size. They are so all individual. Just want to say hello and welcome! :) |
I think the rule of thumb is you can double whatever their weight at 12 weeks is, but that didn't hold true for us! We got Wrigley at 12 1/2 weeks and she weighed 1.13lbs. She will 2 in June and now weighs 6lbs even! She weighed 5.09 a year ago this time. Our neighbor's Yorkie was 3 1/2 lbs at almost three months and he's now over 12lbs. Sorry, no help! |
this is a pretty good chart to go by...most of us use it here on YT...how that helps... since he is 3.5 lbs at 12 weeks he will most likely be in the 6-7 lb ranges... Yorkshire Terrier Puppy Growth/Weight Chart |
also welcome to YT...hehe...every yorkie is different...they have different build...i mean your could be more muscular than the other ones...there are different factors in that...hehe |
Riley's body stopped growing around 7 months, but hes beginning to be more muscular. Hes almost one now. Hes getting a little belly too!! :p |

In my experience, little boys tend to fill out later. They get their hormones in and their little chests expand. I think if you fix them too early they get a hormone surge and grow more, all my dogs that got fixed early ( 6 mos.) got big and the others that I waited until they were older, stayed smaller! I love all my teapots and tinies the same!! The teapots just don't get to ride in a carrier!!:) |
Thanks for the info everyone. Is it safe for me to gauge what his size will be based on the size of the parents? I did lots of research before I got him and I've seen repeatedly that the ideal size is 4-7lbs/fully grown for this breed. His dad is approximately 4.5lbs I think his owner said and the mom a little bigger. Are males generally smaller then the females, or no  Not that it matters, I love him to pieces and he's healthy, I'm just gathering all the information I can. :D |

I wouldn't think so, but I am no expert. My 4 month old teapot has already surpassed both his parents. :animal36 |
"Yorkies are like a box of chocalates, you never know what you're going to get!!!" :2hearts2:I purchased my Gizmo as a teacup, at 12 weeks he weight about 1.5 lbs, I was ecstatic, on how small he was, I felt he was perfect to breed with my Nygee, who at the time was 5 lbs, and on the chunky side... I couldn't wait for him to be full grown.... What a surprise... Gizmo didnt stop growing, and growing, he's beautiful... But, I was in for a surprise, definitely couldn't breed with my female, Gizmo ended up weighing 10 lbs., he's adorable, with absolutely beautiful coat... But too big for my Nygee... I don't love him any less for overgrowing, He's very dependant, unlike my Nygee who's so very dependant of me... I love my three yorkies, :aimeeyorkNygee now weighs 6.4 lbs, :aimeeyorkGizmo is 11.2 lbs., and :aimeeyorkGypsy is 4.2 lbs., :heart to"Yorkies are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get!!!":hearts33: :yorkiesar :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
