After Spaying Advice Please! Hi everyone. My little 6 month old Pixel went in to be spayed on Tuesday. I dropped her off at 8am (heartbreaking!) and they did blood work on her beforehand; everything came back just fine. She did well through the surgery and I was able to pick her up at 4:30 that afternoon. She was groggy, of course, but was content to be cuddled in my arms all Tuesday evening and most of Wednesday (I took the day off work to look after her). Unfortunately, the poor little soul also had an upset tummy from the anaesthetic and pain drugs. She has had a bout of diarrhea which seems to have cleared up now (Thursday). Poor little girl hates to be messy; I've done the best I could with warm wet soft paper towels and wipes, but it's just not the same as a bath. She has endured the indignity of that with as much patience as I could have expected, poor little thing. I don't want to bath her too soon and cause any problems for her. Can anybody tell me how long to wait before I can safely give her a bath? |
I bathed Lucy a week after her spay. She had a laser spay so it was a lot less invasive and she healed very quickly. I'm sure others will be on to give you more advice :) Welcome to YT :) |
As soon as the incision is healed (fully closed, no scabs) you should be able to give her a bath. Could you maybe clip the hair where it is messy? It will grow back. |
I would say a week would be the earliest you could safely bathe her, 10 days is probably better |
Thanks Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate it. Yes, I can certainly clip her hair. I think she'll feel better afterwards. I haven't heard of "laser spay" procedures. That would have been great. Wish my vet had offered it. Still, Pixel is feeling better today. She's up and around and enjoyed the sun and fresh air from her pillow by the window. Glad to see her more responsive again. :) |
I hope Pixel is back to normal very very soon. She's a cutie! |
