Purina One? Am I the only one who just buys her food at Walmart? We fed our Pom Purina One for 13 years and he was very healthy. Great coat (too much) and no problems. I am starting Baxter on it and hope it is going to be as good for him as it was for Foxy (RIP). |
i think most people go for the high quality foods is because yorkies have so many allergies. the food cant have corn or wheat. some are even allergic to chicken and other meats. |
There tends to be a lot of filler in cheaper priced foods. More filler means less is used nutritionally and comes out the other end...if you know what I mean. Fortunately with small dogs...food goes along way...so the expense isn't an concern. |
Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble I went to a better quality food after reading the link above. Yorkies do seem to have much more sensitive stomaches than most other breeds as well as more allergies. Also, their hair needs such special care from the inside out. Tessa's coat was dull and her skin was dry and flaky before I started using Orijen puppy. :) |
The cost is not an ssue for me. With my Pom he only had one BM a day while on the Purina One and seemed to love it. Baxter is seeming to love it also. I am hoping to have at least a 7 lb. adult dog with no health problems. I don't want a "teacup" that has issues. |
I personally would not do Purina because i don't want my girls to eat by products and they are allergic to corn, wheat, and etc. both mine are really really healthy but My little tumi is allergice to corn and wheat. i have to go for grain free food. You should go to dogfoodanalysis.com to do the research..it's a great site. |
You will find even a higher quality coat with a higher grade food. Also, I believe it extends the life of the dog, as well as creating less health issues as they age. You don't eat McDonald's every day, why would provide low level kibble to your beloved furbaby? :) I would suggest investigating different foods and ingredients at Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble |
