WARNING! RE: New flea & tick medicine This was forwarded to me... I don't use any of these products as I've seen bad reactions many times over....Rosie This is Jo and this is a very important message to my family & friends who have dogs-cats--and to alert you to the hazard of using a new Flea & Tick Preventative called ProMeris http://www.promeris .com/consumer/ . This is a new product designed to be a more effective product than other flea/tick treatments that was just released this year. It is available thru a vet and not currently on-line. I got ProMeris this week for my 7 dogs (6 Huskies & 1 Golden-Airedale) , and the results were debilitating for nearly all of them-including me. Since my incident this week, my vet has pulled it from distribution and alerted the manufacturer, Fort Dodge. Here are my results: Within less than 2 hours after applying, 4 of my dogs had vomited from 2-4 times, 3 were disoriented and stumbling, 1 was dragging his back leg, 1 was salivating. I had very similar symptoms like an allergic reaction-my lips were swollen, eyes very red, mucous membranes such as eyes, nose, and mouth were stinging. I was very disoriented- dizzy equilibrium and not able to drive. To make this a short story-all 7 of my dogs were admitted to the hospital for veterinarian care, and 3 of them remained for care, IV fluids and observation for 24 hours. I was in the emergency room. I'm home now and so are the dogs. We're all feeling much better. Vet bills were over $2,500 and Fort Dodge is paying for these. Not only can the product cause this reaction, it has a highly noxious odor that permeated the house and is just starting to dissipate after 3 days. Your dogs/cats might not have the same reaction, but given my experience-I wanted to help you all become well-educated about the product. Holy Moly! Your poor pups. Thank heavens they are all ok. I never heard of that flea/tick medicine before. You poor thing, you must have been panicked. Thanks for the post. |
I used it once on my female, a 14 lb. teapot!:D The vet was out of advantix for her size and convinced me to try Promeris.....NEVER AGAIN!! The smell immediately gave me a migraine and made her hair extremely oily. I'll stick with advantix. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! |
holy cow thank you for the warning !! I've seen their new ads on tv and the claims they make is it's something we SHOULD USE ....I know I won't be now thanks to you - I'll stick with Frontline Plus - I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience - are they ok now ? |
Can I have your permission to cross post this ??? |
omgosh you poor things! That is just horrendus! I am glad there wasn't any permanant damage done. Thanks for the heads up I will be sure to pass the word along. I am a big fan of Frontline. It works and when Bella had that case of ....Shhhhhh fleas:confused: I was so upset and giveing her flea baths at least once a day and spraying the house and washing everything with flea be gone stuff, until after a few days I finally took her to the vet and they just gave her frontline. GO FIGURE!!!! By the next morning they were all gone!:D How she got them in the dead of winter I will never know! But it worked like magic. |
Thanks for the info. I am glad I use Frontline plus. I won't be switching. |
Unbelievable!!! I'm sooooo glad ALL of you are alright! I have seen it advertised too but I use frontline plus on my 3 dogs and it works very well so therefore I will not change but thanks for letting us know about this stuff!!! |
OMG i hope all your babies will be ok , i would be freaking out, no experimenting here , i will stick to frontline plus (which i just aplied yesterday for the 1st time this yr, allways worked for us so far ! Hugs |
OMGosh!! Thank you SO MUCH for the info. My pet store just started carrying this. I printed this and am bringing up there immediately! Im so glad you guys are here to share your stories and help prevent these things from happening to someone else. Im also very happy to hear your guys are all ok!!:( |
From what I've read this was primarily only used for ants and has not been tested for use on pets....you'd be surprised to read what we use on our pets that isn't safe ...all flea, tick and heartworm products are pesticides and are chemicals, none of them are "safe" to use....it's all some form of poison....these products are hard on our pets livers and kidneys to say the least..... |
To the OP: Thanks for the info! Quote:

I'm so glad you posted this. I was going to try it on Roxy since she has had horrible reactions with Frontline Plus, Advantix K9 and Advantage. Since it had different ingredients, I was hopeful it would be better. Thank goodness I've been too broke to get it. How can this stuff go out on the market if it causes this kind of reactions? I'm sorry you and your babies had to suffer so much, but I'm glad you are all ok. |
