dexter is not eating!
 
Hi all,

I'm concerned about my Dexter. He hasn't eaten regularly in over a week. He'll pick at his food, or just sniff it and walk away. I don't think he's sick, because he eats whatever treats we give him, and begs for table food. I guess it's my fault for ever giving him any, but now he won't eat his food. I've taken away his treats and he still refuses to eat. I'm putting corn syrup in his water and giving him nutri-cal hoping this phase will end soon.

Any suggestions on how to get him to eat his food?

Hi! :) How old is he? Is it a new kind of food? Is his energy the same and his poo the same? If he is a puppy and if he is acting at all differently (and if poo is odd), I'd take him to the vet. Depending on what kind of food you're feeding, it might be beneficial to try something else...:)

Hi. He's a year old, and nothing else seems out of the ordinary. His poop is still pretty solid, not runny or mucousy. He actually ate yesterday. I called the vet, and they said to try moistening his food, which I did. He gobbled up, no problem. I'm actually thinking of switching his pet food though. Any suggestions?

Some good ones are: Natures Variety Instinct, Canidae, Orijen, California Natural, Natural Balance. :)

I feed Sweet William my own cooking. Basically he gets what I eat, but I don't add salt, sauces and fats until I get him his portion out. I asked my vet about it, and her suggestuion is he get twice as much carbs as he gets proteins. Carbs including veggies, she says it is important they get green veggies. My guy loves rice, potatos, green beans, broccoli, carrots, peaches, etc. yes, you can include fruits. The 3 biggies on what NOT to feed is onions, chocolate and grapes. Oh and I just read recently that some mushrooms are harmful, but all mushrooms should be avoided, just in case. All can be extremely harmful to dogs. And I also give my boy vitamins, Pet-Tabs once a day. He is happy and healthy! :p
