Flea & Tick Meds Can anyone tell me when I should I start to apply flea and tick meds? Bernie is 3 months and only ~1 1/2 lbs. Many meds I see on the shelf are for dogs at least 5lbs. Should I be worried about this yet? He's due to see the vet on Saturday but I wanted to see what folks here would recommend. Any brands in particular? Thanks in advance. |
Bio-Spot is what I have been using for several years. I tell all of my grooming clients to use it too. I have a busy grooming shop, and with most of my clients using this, I rarely see fleas in my shop. I live in sandy soil near a lake, very nice living for the fleas and ticks, so we have a lot of fleas and ticks in our area. Most of the flea and tick stuff from the vets stops the life cycle (birth control for pests) but if they get on your dog, ride the dog into your home, jump off the dog and bite you, they can still reproduce. Bio spot kills the fleas as soon as they jump on the pet. To me that is much better than stoping the life cycle. If one does happen to bite the dog and live, it cannot reporduce. win/win. I can't imagine putting something so strong on a little dog that it will actually kill fleas. What that must be doing to the dogs health puts chills on me. I keep suggesting all natural products that won't cause major medical problems in our pets. Here again is a good place to start: http://lowchensaustralia.com/pests/bites2.htm |
Thanks folks, I'm still concerned about his small size & weight - is there anything over the counter specifically for small pups like these? |

Well Abby is 3 lbs and almost 10 months and I use K9 Advantage and I have had no problems. |
