Overweight ? Help Chooie is 8 months old male, was neutered 4 weeks ago and he weighs 9.0lbs. The vet has put him on Hills prescription diet since he was 5 months old b/c he had digestive issues.... He eats 4 oz of wet food two times a day. Is this a average weight for a yorkie ? |
well he is on the bigger side, but that is okay! more to love :D 4oz of wet food two times per day seems like a lot but i am not an expert...i know i feed my two youngest kids NV raw medallions and they get 3oz total per day  |
Some yorkies are bigger but not necesarily overweight. Can you feel his ribs? You should be able to feel them but not see them. I have a yorkie thats 11 lbs and hes not overweight but he is long |
thanks He is long and long legged....and I can feel but not see his ribs! Thanks that helps :animal36 |
He is on the bigger size but they are all cute |
Sass weighed in at 5.12 oz on Thursday of last week and the vet wants me to get her weight to 5 lbs and keep her there. She eats 1/2 c a day. |

Too much ? Is that wet food you feed Sass ? Maybe I am feeding him too much ? My vet said to follow the label it says a 8oz of wet food a day ? So I split the feedings into 2 ? I dont want him to get over-weight. |
Sass is almost 10 months, she will be 1 yrs old July 8, 2008. She eats California Natural Lamb Meal & Rice Dry Puppy Food. She was eating 1/2 cup a day (sometimes more) We are cutting her back to 1/3 cup a day. I don't give treats, but do give her those dental bone chews I buy from the vet. I also add a little plain yogurt to her food and I am going to cut back on that. When you put your hands on Sass ribs you feel a little layer of fat - you are supposed to be able to feel their ribs. :aimeeyork |
