Poor Monkey So as some of you may remember Chewy has been itching like a crazy animal. We saw a dermatologist 3 weeks ago and had an allergy test done. Vet said that food allergy tests were unreliable and therefore only did one for enironmental allergens. She is allergic to maple trees, dust, mold as well as other trees and stuff ive never heard of. I got the relults over the phone but they should be faxed to my vet. Solution: VACCINES THAT I have to administer every other day!!!!!!!!! Ok so let me tell you a little bit about myself... I FAINTED once when i had to get a shot! and get dizzy and light headed every other time. Just seeing a needle makes me queezy!! Plus how much is this going to cost me??? The doses become further spread apart every few weeks but they will continue for a year or 2 until the symptoms go away. So here is where I need major advice guys... WHAT DO I DO?//?? I am so confused i dont know what to do with myself. The only other option is oral medication that i will give continuously... Here are the medications if anyone has used them please let me know.. Temerol P gives immediate relief, Atopica is longer lasting but wont give full relief for 2-4 weeks or something like that. I also dont know if i should now continue to change her food. What if she isnt allergic to the food even though the doctor says she probably is. Im sooo confused and skeptical about this whole thing... i clean regularly, i dont think there is mold in my house but honestly i dont know how to tell and she BARELY ever goes outside so i dont know how she can be sooo alergic to trees that she sees once a week. Pleasse any advice right now is appreciated. Thanks |
please Get a second opinion with a different vet's office. Sometimes allergy tests are not too accurate, and a second opinion does not hurt, especially if you are having to go through something that you do not want to do in the first place. I am sorry that you have to go through this. I have been a nurse since 1980 and I can give people shots without a second thought...but I coulld not do it on a doggie that I love, unless I was up against a life and death situation. At least I would not want to do it, so I can sympathize with you. I hope you can find some relief for your poor itching little friend. Sue & Cricket :aimeeyork |
I feel yr pain:( Bella is currently on Temaril P (low dosage). I was unsure whether to put her on this or not. She's had several visits to Vet to try and find out what's going on with her itching. One said she thought Bella was too young @the time for it to be food allergies. I thought her hair had thinned on back legs, but another Vet thought her skin looked good and that it was just going from puppy to adulthood. I will tell you that Temaril P does help. I just hate to have to continue it. She's gotten so smart about "pill"s. She hates them. I've tried everything! It usually takes several attempts! The Vet also thinks Bella is going through false pregnancy.:( Last visit, we discussed waiting until her spay for anything further. Ironically, her itching started @ the same time of her first heat cycle. He thinks it could be linked? I wish you the best & I wish I had answers. It is very frustrating. Bella hardly goes outside too. A couple of times when she has, I've seen a few fleas. I think she is also very allergic to flea bites. Of course, I keep a close eye out & she never has any on her after I've taken care of it a few times that it happened. I've changed her food. I also give her vitamin supplement. Please keep us updated on your little one & maybe someone out there has the miracle cure, I wish!! |
Yeah i cannot imagine what i would do if she cries out... shell run away from me the next night... she always cries when we getshots at the vet. Im so confused. |
I would get a second opinion. When Sophie was alive, I injected her with Vitamin K every two weeks. It takes practice, but if you are matter of fact, then simple and painfree. However, I did miss a few times, and the needle went through the other side of the skin (ugh). Also, remember to inject on opposite sides. Injecting saved visits to the vets and less stress for dear Sophie. Good luck! |
