Heat question
 
By how old should a female come into her first heat? What should I do if she doesnt come into heat by a certain age? What health checks should vet do if she doesnt come into? I am getting worried she is almost 14 months and no signs. She had a bad yeast infection in her ear about 3 months ago, could this hinder her overall health to where she has a delayed heat? I just dont want to wait too long when I should have done something. I guess I should take her to the vet and ask these questions but was wondering whats normal for yorkies.

all my girls came into heat between 8 to 11 months. But my cousins yorkie was 14 months and she only has a heat every 8 to 9 months. Mine were pretty regular every 6mo, before they got fixed.

Most bitches come into their first heat between 6-12 months of age, but some do go longer. I'm not sure of what age I'd worry...you might talk to your vet about it and take her in for a checkup

I wouldn't worry quite yet.
At 18 months I'd be very concerned and probably talk to the vet at maybe 15 or 16 months.
Have you thought about just spaying her and avoiding it altogether while almost completely eliminating her chances of getting mammary cancer?

I know that females can take up to a year to come into heat. I got her when she was 10 months old and its possible she may have come into heat before I got her. I can ask the breeder but It looks as though she has never come into heat. I notice a big difference in the vaginal area after a heat, I dont know how to explain what I mean but hopefully you understand what I am talking about. Also normally the nipples stay a little bigger than before the first heat.


Ellie May: Actually I hope to breed her to produce show puppies. Shes great in conformation (great CH and GRCh pedigree) and is a good weight. She is 5.5 lbs, great temperment and is otherwise a healthy girl.
