dog/puppy food Iams® ProActive Health™ Smart Puppy Small & Toy Breed has any had any experience with this food? I currently feed my 8 month 3 lb. yorkie --- Royal Canin MINI Yorkshire 28 . He is soooooooo itchy. Always scratching, i am not sure whether it is from RC or the dry winter weather here in Boston. Regardless, I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with Iams or even Eukanuba. thanks!:D |
Sorry I can't help, I feed Royal Canin for yorks to my three and I alternate with "Ceasar" every other day or so and have had no problems. |
Never used it , so I don't know. Parker is on Artemis and has never had a problem with dry or itchy skin. |
I just started my boys on eukanueba Yorkie, they LOVE it! finally! They are so picky and my fletch was getting soo skinny... he is finally putting on some weight. hes gotta be almost 10lbs now! But he was like 8.5lbs bc he was all bones! At least they eat this stuff and like it a lot.. so Im staying with it! I know people will say its not the best quality, but sometimes its more important that they EAT at all... I live in the boston area too! :) I know what you mean about dry and itchy. My boys skin seems pretty good, but they dont get baths too too often in the winter so I dont dry them out. |
Lily was on Iams when she was little and it made her very itchy she is on Innova now and oing well. |
Meeko was sooo itchy on Royal Canine, too. I switched him to Canidae all life stages and he's been fine ever since |
Royal Canin has made several Yorkies very itchy (including mine). I wouldn't want to see any dog go through it. Iams is full of fillers and I wouldn't feed it if I had a choice. They have also been caught being very cruel to animals. How about Canidae or California Natural? |
Tink is such a fancy little madam, she will eat one range one day and not eat it the next! She has different flavours but always the same brand. |
Royal Canin and Eukanuba are both NOT recommended on Yorkie Talk. Stick with brands like Merrick, Canidae, etc. |

Just as an added note, it gets 1 star on dog food analysis. I don't think Eukanuba's much better either. |
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ Please stick with 6 or 5 star foods for your pup. They eat so little that the cost difference is really worth it. |

As far as Iams/Euk - they are chock full of fillers - so I would steer clear of that food entirely. And, just fyi, Iams/Euk was busted for cruelty in their animal testing a few years back - so it's something to consider in terms of philosophy, if that's important to you. Some nice brands are: Evangers, Canidae, Natures Variety Raw Frozen, Calif. Natural - those are all very good. Also, if you ever want to check allergens in your area - www.pollen.com - I've found it helpful lately! :D |
