Ice Water
 
I was in supermarket before and on checkout line they have a stationary tv monitor with FYI. I caught the tail end of it. They were saying not to give ice water to dogs, but I didnt catch the reason why. Does anyone know why? Sometimes I stick a cube of ice in Gucci's water bowl, figuring it is good. Now I won't do it again.. Just want to pass this along , for does who do not know this ..

Uh oh. I usually put an ice cube or two in Sophie's water. She loves it. Can't wait to find out why it is not a good thing.

Copper loves eating ice cubes! He chews them up in no time? I always give him ice water. Wonder why it is bad?

I was told that ice cubes are good for teething? I give Macy 1/2 of one to chew on when it is hot outside- I hope it isn't bad for her she loves it!

I never heard that either. Maybe you could call the store and see if anyone watched it and can tell us. We are all curious now. Hmmmmmmm...... :)

I have heard that stuff that is too cold can be a shock to their system. I don't think that includes Ice cubes because it takes them awhile to eat them. Ice water they drink fast and I think room temp is better. That is what I have heard.

I have heard this too. Every dog that we've owned since I was little, we had always put ice in their water in the summer hot days. Never had a problem

I WENT TO PATHMARK YESTERDAY AND SAW THAT LOL I WAS LAUGHING CAUSE I LIFT BROWNIE RIGHT UP TO OUR SINK WITH IT REALLY COLD SINCE HE WAS A BABY I THINK THEY JUST WANNA RUIN OUR DOGS FUN :p

Who knows! They say ice water is bad for humans as well, but it hasn't killed me yet!

I can understand that. When I drink ice cold water, I get brain freeze due to the drop in temp. I put ice in Gus's water to keep it from gettin too warm. I don't and have never given any dog ice cold water.

Ice water kinda has the same effect as us eating ice cream really fast.........BRAIN FREEZE!!!!

Idstull and Latya.. thats it , the ice cold water probably shocks their system. Well I will try to investigate next time I am in Shoprite.. Just wanted to post to let you guys know that.....

Hmmmm....now that's very interesting. I don't think that
Teddy is going to like that seeing the little brat won't
drink out of the self watering thing but instead stands
by the water cooler and waits until I draw him a cold
glass of water. Seriously, it's the only water he will drink!
And what about all of the ice cream products for dogs
that are becoming so popular wouldn't that do the same
thing? Just seems weird to me I guess....
