New Hampshire and Lymes Disease! I heard on the news today that ticks are already out here in New England and more than 50% of the ticks tested came back positive for Lymes disease! Gotta get my boys back on their flea and tick meds ASAP!!! Be careful all!!:D |
Wow! Scary! |
Thanks for trh info. That's aweful. I'm sure it's the same here in Maine. Already started the Advantix. Gosh I hate those ticks they gross me out  |
There is a vaccine for Lyme disease for dogs. When we lived in Maine, Edie got it. Lyme disease can cripple a dog, and it doesn't have to happen. Stay on your flea and tick preventatives AND get the vaccine. |
My vet did not reccomend the Lyme vx for my dog. The effective rate right now is to low and the chance of reaction is to high. Currently there is a test for Lyme (I work for a great company that develops Animal diagnostic tests, this is one of our tests)) and I think I'll test each year along with heartworm. Lyme is trateable if caught early. I don't give that vaccination to my horse either but I do worry. My friends lab had the Lyme vx and still ended up getting it and dying of kidney failure at 7 years. Man those ticks I wish there was some way to control them! |

That's interesting. Edie had the vx about 4 years ago. We don't need them in Arizona, so she never had another one. I remember an article in the Portland Press Herald about dogs with Lyme. It can be devasating. That's why I had her get the vx. |

hmmm last year in our neighborhood there were 6 cases of lymes disease and one of the dogs was around 10 lbs it died. i choose to get all my dogs vaccinated last year because ticks were so bad. " we dont even live in the woods" i dont know what i will do this year as far as shots for all the dogs. its scarry though. |
Ozzy just got his first ever Advantix on sunday and did fine with it but I hate those chemicals. I feel like everytime I kiss him (which of course I do ALOT) I"m getting pesticide in my mouth:tongue4: But I guess it is the lesser of the evils... |
I live in the woods on a tree farm. There is tons of deer poop in my yard so I am terrified. My husband insists if I want to walk Ozzy we drive downtown or somewhere that is paved (we have 3 acres, mostly woods). Our immediate yard isn't landscaped yet so it's sand right now so it's relatively safe for now..but when we sod..then it will be a close inspection every time he comes in! I would love to walk in my woods with my Baby but we can't risk it  |
